If so, how do I go abouts doing this? Do I just call the town of Hemp? Sorry - first year in my home! I think the previous owners had the exemption and it carried over to us... but I hear I will have to renew it in Dec.

Usually you don't. But You may b/c you're the new owners. Not sure though.
Call up the town of hempstead.. If you do a search, I posted a site where you can download the form and a number where you can call and they will send you a form in the mail.

You do have to apply since you are the new owners. YOu just apply once, you don't have to apply every year. My husband and I just recently applyed last month. Time is running out, I believe you have till the end of Dec. Jan. is when the STAR program comes into effect.

thanks girls!!! i really appreciate it. now one more question... will they come out and reassess our property now? bc we have done a few minor things but people tell me that the town of hemp will kill us one anything (ie - a new patio, in ground sprinklers etc). i'm going to look up the post and websites oyu girls gave me now!
