Does anyone know the etiquette when it comes to inviting your officiant?? Do they get an invitation, or just a verbal invitation? Is anyone inviting their officiant? What about their wife (if they are a reverend or rabbi?).
Thanks!

Re: Do you invite the officiant??
Im not inviting mine. She even said 'after the ceremony we will be out of your hair'. If they went to every reception they couldnt have a life of their own. They would spend EVERY weekend at a wedding.

I am sending him an invitation. I also go to a small church, so it's not like he has a million weddings to go to.

I think that unless they say otherwise they and sig. other should be invited. I have been told that they usually politely decline.

I invited the priet to my wedding but expected that he wouldn't attend. My parish is a very busy one and my wedding is the day before Palm Sunday. I recived the response card saying he declined.

Okay, so if you are inviting them, do they get a formal invitation?? Hope I don't sound stupid.

I am sending my priest an invitation (like everyone else). I do not expect him to come because I know that he is busy but it is only right to invite him.

If I don't invite my priest & his wife, I'll be crucified!!!! J/K - they are family friends and will most assuredly be invited!

Re: Do you invite the officiant??
My rabbi told us he feels funny going to an affair after officiating at it, especially since ours is kosher style, and he is strictly kosher and he never wants to be accused of eating in a non kosher place even if we get him and his wife a sealed meal. He is going to attend the pre wedding ceromony a few weeks before at the temple.

We invited our priest with his wife. We knew they probably wouldn't come but thought it was a nice gesture.

Re: Do you invite the officiant??
What if you don't know if they are married or not? My officiant is a Reverend, so he could be married. Do I call and ask, 'Oh, by the way, are you married?' What do I do??? Yeeks! The calligraphy has all been done, and I never thought of inviting him! I can call the calligrapher and have one made up for him, but how do I address it???
Thanks again!

Re: Do you invite the officiant??
We're inviting our officiant, but she would've been invited anyways cuz she's my mom's best friend
Even if she weren't, I'd still send her a formal invitation - and I'd invite the officiant with a guest even if I didn't know his/her marital status Call the church office/secretary & ask if the officiant is married. If so I believe its addressed:
The Reverend & Mrs. ____________
if Not
The Reverend ______________
& you can also ask the church secy for his/her official title cuz some are 'the reverend dr. ___'

Re: Do you invite the officiant??
I asked ours if he would be joining us at the reception and he declined but said he would be at part of the cocktail hour. (He was'nt because he was at a jet playoff party that day! )
