I used to stay late all the time but ever since I got married I have only stayed about an hour late once.

Re: Do you leave work when you are supposed to?
I used to stay late at my last school almost every day, but w/ my longer commute and this mouse school, I rush out as soon as I can & do whatever work at home.

my job before this one, ALWAYS! I was putting in 90 hour work weeks all the time and for anything over 40 hours we only get half time pay! Never a thank you, never asked me to stay late just always assumed and told me I was...damn I hated that joba nd I am so happy I am out. It was putting stress on our relationship so I finally left (took a pay cut and went down a rung on the ladder) but it was the best move I ever made. I would never go back to working late all the time ever again.

We have a mouse problem too & it makes staying lat that much worse.

Re: Do you leave work when you are supposed to?
For my job- it's so weird. I work on a project basis. So there are weeks at a time where I'm out the door at 7 or 8 (mostly during Spring and Fall) then there are weeks where I'm out at 5.
So it all depends on what time of year it is. All my big projects that I am the lead on are in the spring... so my busy time is right around the corner.
I wish it was more consistant... but that's just the nature of promotions.

I always stay late, because I carpool with DH who has no concept of time or normal working hours. Sometimes I don't actually work, though - if it's really late I just play games on the computer or catch up with personal e-mail.

i never stay late at this job. my work is only dependent on me. so if i manage my time right during the day i have no reason to stay late.

Re: Do you leave work when you are supposed to?
My hours are 9-5. Lately I am here until 6-6:30.
Yesterday at 5:15, my boss says she isn't staying late & then at 6:30 as I am leaving I see her & say what are you still doing here? & she says it isn't that late. It is an hour past her regular hours & 1 1/2 past mine. To me that is late! To her it isn't, so what if I lave at 5, is that leaving early?
Our assistant leaves at 5, and it bothers my boss. But those are our hours. Is it my fault we are short staffed?

Re: Do you leave work when you are supposed to?
It all depends on the definition of late. I usually stay at least 15-20 minutes late and come in 15 minutes early. I only stay an hour or later once a month. I don't have a job that requires that of me, nor do they pay me enough to stay late. Especially with my LIRR commute.

I usually leave at 5 from this job. My last job I always had to stay late and hated it. My first year here I stayed late working most nights but when it went mostly unappreciated I stopped. I often work through my lunch hour though.

Re: Do you leave work when you are supposed to?
I have about 1 hour an 15 minute commute.on the way home, usually in the am it takes an hour.
I leave home at 7:50, and get home between 7:15 & 8 lately.
I was wondering if I was being unreasonalbe, b/c my boss thinks getting home at 8 is early, but she is single & usually goes at after work, she doesn't go home & cook & things.

Re: Do you leave work when you are supposed to?
My rule was unless there was something MAJOR we were working on for a deadline, I left at the exact stroke of five.
ETA: I guess I should NOT make this the objective on my resume

no? that would be my real objective too, should we just put that out here, right up front?

Re: Do you leave work when you are supposed to?
In jobs past, I used to stay late all the time as a courtesy, then it became 'expected' and not compensated - since then, I will only stay late in the case of an emergency.

Re: Do you leave work when you are supposed to?
I used to work late as a standard. It was sort of 'expected' of us. Staying til 6-6:30pm was the norm. I did this for about 2 years at this job. Then we all started realizing that not only was it completely unnecessary (and mostly for show -- making OUR boss look good) -- it was also becoming expected and therefore unnappreciated, not to mention thoroughly uncompensated. So we all stopped doing it and now you're lucky if you get an answer at one of our desks at 4:55pm.

The only way I have to stay late is if I work overtime and volunteer for it.

My library has set hours, so I don't stay late even if I wanted to (which I don't!!!)
