Do you live beyond your means??

Do you live beyond your means??

If you should be buying a Hyundai, are you looking at BMW's? If you should be buying a house for 300K, are you looking at houses that are 450K? If 'dinner out' with your DH should be McDonalds, are you eating at Mama Lombardi's?????

I think sometimes we live a little beyond our means. We eat out more than we should, and I shop a little more than I should, but we aren't extravagant. It's difficult b/c I'm a full time student with no salary, and DH's income isn't wonderful. Once I start working, I'll be making more than DH right off the bat, and we'll be much more finanically stable. We can't save anything right now.

ETA: We always pay off our monthly credit card statements.

No, we are the type that pay off our credit card every month and don't dine or shop extravegently. Unless it is a special occasion! When we go away we make sure we pay for it and don't put it on credit!

I completely live within my means..I am a strict budget person..I don't consider myself a miser, that is what my friends call me, but I never stress money at all..I am 2k away from my Hyndai, I will buy it outright..10 yr warrenty and no car payments sounds great to me..we are moving out of state because any home here is beyond our means..

No way, dh would never allow it. I call him the savings nazi! We live within our means and have a nice lifestyle. DH doesn't believe in cc debt and that you have to save money every month. It is ok with me because he keeps me in check. I would probably spend a lot more than I do if it wasn't for him.

I voted 'a little bit more'

We are truly conservative about our spending and live in a tiny co-op that doens't cost us much presently, and we don't really splurge on clothes or things for OURSELVES because our main priority is saving for a house

Yes I drive a Jeep and DH has a new car (DH drives a long way so buying a new car for him was a priority - but it was a Hyundai so it wasn't much of a splurge) .. and yes we splurge a little too much on gifts for friends/family, eating out and going to movies, and vacations as well. Yet at the end of the month, we can definitely pay all our bills and are able to save a tiny bit even, so I consider our 'splurges' just a bit over our means, but they don't break the bank in any sense of the word.

I just feel like while we're still just 'us' I don't ever want to get to the point where we are saving and not having ANY sort of enjoyment in life. I fully realize the sacrifies we'll be making when we do become homeowners and have children, so for now we do like to 'treat' ourselves here and there

I am proud that as of this month we are finally debt free (student loans, credit cards and the like) so this is cause for splurging/celebration! (I guess we'll never learn )

There are definately times that we do, but there are also times we live below our means, if that makes sense, so I think it evens out.

if i could, i would take the $$ we have saved for our wedding, and spend it all without a problem. but, i know that i can't do that. i don't even touch that $$, its for the wedding only. other then that, no, i don't think we liver beyond our means. if we eat out, its chilis or applebee's, someplace we can afford. he is the saver and he tries to keep me in check.

i have nice stuff but its from marshalls, tjmaxx, century21 and outlets. i NEVER pay full price. i do spend more on my purses and coats, but even those are discounted.
we do go out to dinner every weekend - we will spend like $100-$200 a weekend on that stuff but we really enjoy going out to eat.

now with the new house we will be poor though....

We used too..but now that we are adopting..we are trying to pay cash for it and its been a rude awakening...money is extremely tight and its frightening. The only debt we have our my student loans, but we are still renting..the money we were saving for a house is now being used to bring two wonderfuil boys home..so its worth it. We'll have a house soon..it maybe a shack..but it'll be ours!

Re: Do you live beyond your means??

We do, but only slightly. FH has a good job, but it's been hard because he had a lot of expenses moving into his own apt for the first time (we bought furniture we could use ocne we're married so we wouldn';t buy furniture twice)...and now he's hvaing probs with his car, but that was unavoidable..I don't think we're really extravagant at all. FH drives a 16 year old really beat up car, and we hardly ever go out to dinner, and if we do, it's usually Zen Palate or something else that's not too expesnive. The only thing we do that we really can't afford is that we have been to disney world a few times.

Definitely not. We don't save as much as I would like to in order to save for a house to upgrade from our condo, but we definitely save a little each month (at least until I start having to pay for my doctoral program ). Then no shopping for three years.
