Do you live in an Apartment? BC I need some help...

Heres the short story - we moved into a really nice apartment complex almost 2 years ago.. very nice and we pay alot of $$ in rent every month - we decided to get a 2nd floor and pay more $$ because we have lived on a 1st floor and know the noises that can be heard at all hours...

..Recently the zoo that lives in the apartment below us is absolutely unbearable.. The slam doors at 2, 3, 4 AM.. contanstly loud and obnoxious.. The woman and man who live there with their two children, whenever we pass them in the parking lot or by our front doors and me or FH smile they just have this sort of grimace and keep going ... never even eye contact... ... I want to call the rental office and talk to the women there.. but Im also at the point of having MANY sleepless nights and do want to go tit for tat... ... primarily beginning with vacuuming at 2,3,4 AM over their kids bedrooms....

have you had to deal with this sort of problem before? help me.....

yes. my downstairs neighbor is a raging a-hole. he plays his whiney rock music at all hours and shakes the apartment.

I didn't call the rental office because lets face it...he knows where i live. I do go tit for tat, and start 'dancing' to his music... by dancing, i mean stomping around like an idiot.

i dont think it really made a difference, but it made me feel better knowing i was probably breaking things in his apartment.

I would call the rental office. No need to stoop down to their level. If the rental office can't or won't help then you go go on with your vaccuming!

The people above us are similar.. they vaccum at 5 am EVERY DAY and have WOOD FLOORS!!! They don't even have rugs!!!!!!!!!!!! And they fight like animals! Constantly. It gets so brutal sounding I've actually called police on them because it sounded like they were killing eachother. Although, I must admit it can be somewhat entertaining to easedrop on some of their fights... one time they were fighting because she found pink panties in her husbands pocket! He said the guys from work put it there as a joke! He works in construction... and wears these boots... that he leaves in the hallway... but right before he gets to his door he shakes piles of dirt out right infront of the dooryway to enter the building...and it's gross and rude and disrespectful! Sometimes there's some strange sounds which can only be described as 'bowling' accross the floor. They are just pure animals! Can't stand them... but we haven't complained. Mainly because we sometimes have these big parties.... and well no one ever relly complained about our parties... so I just don't want to open that door. But when I see the dirt in the hallway I can't help but yell something as I walk passed their door! Hee hee!

ugh i have this problem now and had it really really bad before.

When im spending $1700 a month in rent there is no way in hell im going to stand for sleepless nights

I talked to them - they didnt quit- strike 1
I told the landlord- they didnt quit- strike 2
I called 311 everytime and had the police come over and had reports written- thats strike 3 b*tches

There were enough reports written up that i had them evicted. Yup. go me.

Now the apt im in the guy upstairs blasts salsa music but its usually off my 10 or 11

i went up there this saturday to let him know it was too loud and he has been ok since.

Call the rental office. They will keep your complaint confidential if need be. I have had to deal with this and they took care of it right away for me. You may have to follow up in writing. The complex did not renew their lease when it was up.

my 2nd floor neighbor is loud at odd hours as well. Especially at 2 or 3am in the morning and especially during the weekend. She fights with her boyfriend and always throws stuff. So i hear her yelling and stuff breaking. My mom got pissed one day and went down stairs banged on her door and told her to shut the f up, it's been quiet for now. lol

We have complained to the landlord but he doesn't get involved. Maybe you can talk to your neighbors and ask them to try and keep it down passed a certain hr.

they are absolutely ridiculous.. I will call the rental office tomorrow since they are closed today.. but paying $1700/month to wake up at all hours of the night because they are doing god knows what.. it will be vacuuming to wake up their 3 and 5 year old.. game on ....

I have had this problem, but with the neighbors with dogs. I mean, YOU have a dog. Why do I have to listen to it bark at all hours??? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE dogs, but I don't want to hear your untrained dog 24/7.

So when my neighbor the cruel ******* left his dog out on the balcony for 8 HOURS while he was out, that poor dog cried the WHOLE TIME.

So I went over to his apt. and put a note on his door, and it went something like this:

I had to listen to your dog for 8 hours today. First of all, you should be ashamed for the way you treated that animal. If you are unable to properly care for a dog, then you had no business getting one. In addition, your lack of respect and courtesy towards your neighbors is a disgrace. The next time I have to listen to your dog cry for more than 15 minutes, I will call the police.

Thank you in advance.

I haven't heard peep ONE from him or his dog since, and that was over a year ago.

I had a situation with my neighbors downstairs. They played loud music allllllllllll day, every day.
We asked them to lower it and the first time they did. The second time they blew me off and basically told me tough luck. So we started with the tit for tat and stomped around the house, still did nothing most of the time. Finally I gave up and wrote a letter of complaint to the management company. It's been peace and quiet ever since

Now if only I could do something about the upstairs people...

I had an issue with my upstairs neighbor. She didn't have rugs or carpeting over her hardwood floors and I could hear her dog's paws everytime he walked! At first I thought there were rats in the ceiling and then I realized it was a dog.

I told the doorman about it and he said he would talk to her. Nothing changed. So I knocked on her door one night and VERY politely introduced myself and asked if there was anything she could do. She was very nice and I think she got a rug a week later because I didn't hear anything after that.

It worked in my favor only because I know in most NYC leases, it states that the floors have to be covered 80%.

If your neighbors aren't nice people, I would go directly to the management company and rental office and tell them what's going on. Tell them only FACTS (not your opinions) and things relevant to your living situation (leave out the scowls in the parking lot).

As someone who lives in the same complex as you,you should definitely call the office, and speak with Joanne!!!! There is no reason they should be that loud. Maybe they don't realize???? Who knows...

Good Luck!
