I take prenatals from GNC. You don't need a prescription and my doctor said they were fine and to keep taking them.

I've been taking OTC prenatals since I was TTC.

Is there a specific brand over the counter that is best to take? We were discussing this at a shower this weekend and we were curious about that. What do you look for over the counter - is it just follic acid?

There are OTC Prenatals, however I chose to get a prescription from my doctor. When I was TTC I was on a lower dosage and when I became pregnant they gave me a more powerful vitamin. Before that I was taking Ultra-Mega for Woman from GNC (dr. said it was too much). GNC has a pre-natal brand that I know many people take.

most need a prescription but in GNC they sell alot of prenatals which have folic acid and a lot of people take those instead of a prescription one.

I've been taking OTC ones for over a year now. I've been using the Eckerd and/or CVS brand that compares to Staurt Duet prenatals. They have 800 mg folic acid and all the other imporant things like Vitamin C and Iron. A bottle of 100 pills cost about $8-$10.

I'm not TTC but do you think it's too early to start taking an OTC pre-natal or maybe just extra follic acid? We plan to TTC in about 2 years.
