Do you normally have a DJ at the e-party???

Hi girls, maybe you all can help as I am clueless to e-party do's and dont's.

My parents are being great and have offered to throw us an e-party... but I am not sure if we should have a DJ. Here is the specifics... it will be at a restaurant in a pvt room on either a Fri or Sat night. There will be about 60-80 ppl.

I just don't want it to be boring but not sure if I want a DJ... PLEASE HELP!

Is there a dance floor in the room? If so you should have a DJ. If not, then someone could simply play CDs just for some background music. Everyone can chit-chat and socialize.

Yes it is a large room and will be plenty of space for a DJ. I was just trying to not make it 'min-wedding' and wantd people to mingle and not want the DJ to over power ppls converstaions. BUT on the other hand I don;t want it to be boring....

Well I had 70 people in a restaurant Pv dining area and we had someone play live music ...I think that you should def. have something but you have to check with the place also to see what they will allow

My parents paid for my e-party and FH and I wanted/had a dj. We booked a knights of colombus so it needed a DJ and said we would pay for it. My family also happens to be a bunch of dancing fools. It was mandatory for us.
We had around 120 people and well, the DJ ended up being a poor choice on our end. You learn from your mistakes.

In the end, my parents paid for the DJ.

It's going to be in a pvt room in a restaraunt and at night... I am sjut afraid that if I have the dj it may not allow ppl to get up and mingle with one another and they will stay at their tables,,, but on the other hand if there is no music that it will be quiet...

Maybe you can have someone come in and do as the others suggested....just play some music, like background music.
Dont forget that the whole nite dosent consist of party, dancing music and people will mingle regardless. Not everyone dances either.

All I know is my nite flew!!! I wish I took more pictures too.

We also had it in a Knights of Columbus and didn't have a DJ...we used their CD player which had speakers in the walls and it was fine. I thought it would be bad but it was actually good....it gave everyone a chance to mingle and talk...

I think it depends on what you want and what you can spend too

i wanted the fam to meet but i did not want them to talk . that is why i had the dj. everyone danced and had a good time
i had it at Siricos in bklyn and the dj OMG i do not know his name it is my dad's friend his company is in NJ.

I had a DJ, but it was my brother's company, so it came for a good price

If you want info for him, FM me, he has very reasonable prices, and did a great job at my eparty (especially considering I never told him anything concerning the play list).

We had a dj but only because our e-party was only immediate family and BP and we had the e-party at a small hall and used their house dj for cheap!!

Like others suggested, you may be able to play CD's. We did that for FI's daughter communion party which had like 60 -70 people and it turned out great! We planned out all the music and hooked up his ipod to the speakers....
