I keep seeing things about people reserving a 'block' of rooms for their guests. Do you have to put down money to reserve? Do you pay for these rooms yourself?
I am a newb so i dont know . Thank you!

I didnt have to put any money down for the hotel block. You just call the hotel and they will reserve a certain amount for you.

Agreed...you just reserve a set amount...they don't ask for money up front

Re: Do you pay for hotel guests?
you reserve the block and hold it with your credit card in some cases but the guests pay for them. At Fox Hollow I had to guarentee 70% so if I didn't meet that, I would have had to pay to cover the rest, but that didn't happen.

You don't pay for the rooms for yuor guests, you just have the hotel hold them so that they can book the rooms. Though some places will make you sign a contract for a certain amount of rooms and only if they do not get booked by your guests will you be required to pay for the rooms.

Re: Do you pay for hotel guests?
i have rooms blocked at 2 different hotels. i signed a contract for 15 rooms at both. i am not financially responsible for any of the rooms; however, if the minimum amount of rooms for the special rate are not booked, then the guests who did book have to pay regular price. one month before the wedding they release any rooms that have not yet been filled. HTH!

We have exactly the same situation. 2 hotels...no money from us. If they are not booked a month before the rest get re-released to the public.

Re: Do you pay for hotel guests?
we set up blocks at 2 hotels that did not require us to guarantee the rooms. We did look at one inn that required us to guarantee but we were not comfortable with that at all. I know some of the other 07 brides were told that they had to guarantee and when they pushed back, the hotels relented and didn't force them to do so. not sure if you want to try that, but we were simply uncomfortable being the personal guarantor on the rooms.

Re: Do you pay for hotel guests?
YOu shouldnt have to, we just went in signed a contract for X amount of rooms for X amount of nights...then we were told that 30 days prior to the event date whatever rooms that werent booked would open up for the public to book and any guests booking inside that 30 days would be charged the normal rate for the room.
I never had to pay for any of the rooms that we had blocked off for the wedding, its just considered a block of rooms for your guests. I would NOT book rooms at a hotel that expected you to pay-especially sinc ethere are other hotels out there that are willing to NOT charge you for the block

No, you have to much to pay for. They are responsible for that.

No you don't pay for them- some just require that you sign a contract to reserve a block of rooms and also keep a credit card on file as well in some cases.

No way. The guest should pay for their own rooms. Unless they are someone really, really special.........Weddings cost enough, as is.

Re: Do you pay for hotel guests?
a couple of hotels said we'd be responsible if a certain % of the rooms weren't booked...so we didn't block with them.
With the 3 we blocked with, we didn't have to give any cc info.....when the guests call in to reserve their room from the block, they give their cc #. all 3 of ours put the rooms back on sale for regular price a month prior to the wedding though.

I agree with this.
There are soooo many hotels out there, we thought it would be a waste of money to block rooms at a hotel where it could potentially cost us money.
If they ask for a guaranteed % or for CC info ... KEEP LOOKING!
