I know the SIDs folks say Back to Bed....but some people were telling me that they put their baby ONLY on their side. Comments?

It's actually called the 'Back to Sleep' campaign.

We put Paul to sleep on his side in the hospital and during his very first week home....mostly b/c he was still trying to evict the mucus and fluid that was trapped in his lungs from being inutero.

After the first week, it was Back to Sleep!

I would put him on his side alot more often that John would, in the first maybe 2 months? and even the Dr said it wasnt necessary. I also worried about if he spit up, but Doc said not to worry, and to place him ON HIS BACK.

I put Emma to sleep on her back in the beginning. She had a lot of mucus in her throat from being a c-section so she slept in her bouncy seat for a while. When she could roll over she went to sleep on her side because she would only sleep that way... im guilty of the side sleeping but I NEVER let her sleep on her stomach like she does now.

Ryan has slept both ways since he was born. He has always been congested, and he tends to be gassy, so he is more comfortable on his side. He starts out on his back, but ends up moving to his side. When he was smaller, the sleep positioner kept him in 'place' so he wouldn't roll to his tummy.

I always put Sean down on his back. He liked sleeping on his side for about 2 weeks. Then he started to manuver his way onto his back!

When I give him tummy time before his afternoon nap, he falls asleep!! He sleeps so well on his tummy that I make sure it's at a time where I'll be in the same room with him (like now)!

This may be a dumb question, but why is it dangerous for them to sleep on their stomach. I'm just learning all this mommy stuff for the future someday!

Doreen: There's a higher risk for SIDS when babies sleep on their bellies.

I know I slept on my belly when I was an infant, but, the thought of leaving Sean alone on his tummy scares the crap outta me even though he has excellent neck control and can shift from left to right very well!!
