I think we're going to hire a trio or quartet for our ceremony...but I thought a good way to save a few hundred bucks is to not have music during the CH. Am I completely wrong? My family, FH's family, and our friends are pretty loud and I don't think they'd hear the music anyway especially since this will be the first time many of them have seen each other in a year and there will probably be a lot of loud talking and laughing going on. I also don't think anyone will really care whether there is music or not. FH, on the other hand, believes that the music will add to the ambiance of our CH...he also thinks if we're paying then for the ceremony we might as well pay them to stay for the CH..which I don't understand.
Suggestions? Comments? Am I wrong? My friend just had her wedding with no CH music and no one even noticed!!

Re: Do you really need CH music?
If you keep the music you're having for the ceremony for the CH you'll be paying a lot more. What if you comprimise and play some Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Michael Bouble on an Ipod... put it off in a corner so no one will notice what the music is being played on. That way, you're saving a ton of money but you still have you music.

You should check with your hall, some of them can pipe music in for cocktail hours, I know my hall does that...

Re: Do you really need CH music?
Our hall said thy will play a cd or their music on their overhead sound system if we dont want to bring in live msuic or use the dj. They had it on last time we went there and it will be fine. See if yours does that.

Re: Do you really need CH music?
Our hall doesn't have a built-in sound system to do that. Plus if we have CH outside they won't let us use speakers outside which is the reason why we have to use a trio or quartet for the ceremony if we have it outside.
Chances are we won't be outside, but if the weather's nice, we'd like to be in the fresh air!
Thanks for the advice...I guess I'll have to fudge the budget a little...

You could also search craigslist for some student musicians who might do this for you at a discounted rate...
