Do you serve drinks at rehearsal dinner/party??

Hi everyone I just joined, getting married in August and I feel like there are not enough hours in the day! Anyway I'm sure I'll have lots of questions but one that has just come up...

With all the hoopla over the wedding I am trying not to have the reshersal dinner turn into a big production. I don't know whats standard there and what isn't, my aunt is hosting the dinner/party in her very large apartment and we're expecting about 30-35. We're having it catered but I'm curious about drinks...a full bar seems excessive for that amount of people, plus I dont really want people drunk the morning of the wedding ;(.

Should I just serve specific cocktails until a certain time (what summer drinks are in right now that everyone will drink...)? Or forget cocktails altogether...

the fact this is getting planned so far in advance is ridiculous to me but... ;)

I would just serve beer and wine...Its easier and most people enjoy one of the two.

I agree....most people will expect at least wine and beer. I dont think you need to go the hard alcohol route though

ok, I hate to be the voice of dissent but at a New York rehearsal dinner? Come on, I would at least serve something.

you could do vodka and cranberry, something very classy like that, or go for a classic martini. Newer gins like Bulldog are very 'in' right now. My finance and I served cumquat martinis at our engagement party, they were a big hit...went through about a half a pound of cumquats, which are great, very tart with the gin

BUT...serve the alcohol BEFORE dinner only and limit yourself to a few bottles. After that wine and beer only, I'd say, like the rest. That will keep people from having TOO much fun

I'd also do wine, beer, soda. Or you could also add a a champagne punch or a signature cocktail and just keep pitchers of that made.

it might be a little tacky but we where on such a tight budget we did cash bar, we paid for soda, water coffee and tea, but anything alchol was cash bar we just couldnt afford to, my family are huge drinkers.

You can just do beer, wine, soda and then think of a Signature drink that the poeple at the rehersal can drink also if they want.

We did just sodas, wine and beer-anything else people had to get themselves but that pretty much covered everyone

I would do beer & wine. But also put out the basic hard alcohol (bottle of vodka, rum, scotch, and maybe gin). Then just get mixers of OJ, tonic, club soda, ginger ale, cranberry. Dont forget the lemons & limes too.

It's nothing extravagant, but at least there will be a 'mini bar' for those that choose.

Ours is at a restaraunt and its just beer and wine. If people want cocktails they'd have to order them seperate.

I think since your's is at a house you have a lot of options. You could pick one 'signtature' drink, that way you only have to get one or two types of liquor.

Maybe just different wines.

I guess it depends on your guests somewhat. I know we have a lot of big wine drinkers on one side so I'm kind of catering to that a little.

You don't have to do anything--but I think most girls on here do wine, beer, and soda. I think that's more than enough.
