Do you think it causes problems in relationships when the women makes significantly more?
This is from a discussion on the radio this morning. Men were calling in saying yes its a problem. I was surprise. There were some men saying they would love it but most said it would be a problem.
My husband makes more than me but when we first started dating I made more. I didn't think it was a problem in our relationship.
Though the other day we were talking about our trip to Florida. When we were there DH contemplated getting a sweater. He decided not too. So anyway I guess now that we are married he felt better telling me he did not get it b/c he was broke at the time.
My response was you knew I had money that day you should of said something. I guess my hubby can't take money from a woman

I don't think it would be a problem if no one else knew about it...but if people knew...then YES, it would be a problem. I know a couple that has this problem and the hubby actually LIES about his salary! WHO CARES!!! Why are they telling people their salaries to begin with???
My FI would LOVE it if I made more!!LOL

In my opinion if a man has a problem with his woman making more, it is a sign of insecurity. What's the big deal? Money is money, nothing more.
FI makes more than I do, but that is because he ownes his own business. Before he started his own company I was bringing more home because of my commission. It didn't effect our relationship what so ever.

It would not matter to my dh if I made more money than him. It all goes in the same pot!

The only way I could see it causing a problem is if Mom wants to stay at home -- harder on the family to cope with one salary if she was the bigger wage earner.
Other then that, I am sure it can cause problems in the same way a woman being independent and having strong opinions can 'cause problems.' In other words, it shouldn't!

Are you kidding? Well, I'm a SAHM now but if that were the case my DH would be thrilled and would joke about how I wear the pants in the family and how he's a kept man.
I definitely think it's a sign of either insecurity or just being taught that the man must be the breadwinner, main provider for his family, etc. It depends on what his upbringing was like sometimes.

Yeah I agree with you all. It shouldn't matter. My husband always jokes that I need to make more so he can stay home on his computer all day

In my relationship it would not matter, though I cannot say the same for others.
The Male ego is so fragile and some men may see it as a sign of inferiority.

It's actually funny that you ask..... FH and I were just talking about this...LOL!!!
FH was a trader and making quite a bit of money, but was laid off....he took a pretty big paycut to take the job he has now, and as a result I make a significant amount more than he does.....
This will not be the case forever, b/c he plans to get his MBA and get back into Finance, but for now...it works for us!!!!
He likes to call me his 'Honey Money Maker'....It's kind of a joke between us....
Edited to add - it does not bother either of us in the LEAST bit!!!!

DH and I spoke about it and it would not matter to him who brought home the bacon. If I did he would stay home with the kids and he has no problem with it.

I do and it doesn't bother FH. The only time it bothers him is when I say that he should stay home with the kids when we have them. That gets him upset.
My sort of step-sister and her husband moved to VA and he is home with the kids
Frankie is better with infants then I am!
But that is the only time so I have learned can't say that anymore.

This applies to FI and I. I make alot more than my FI and it does not bother him at all. He just knows that I can not stay at home once we have children but other than that it is fine with him.

I make more then my FH and my salary will continue to increase at a quicker rate then his, and he does not care one bit about it.

Roger said it would not, b/c then he could be a SAHMan what he said would make him feel bad or bother him is if he was not contributing to the household. I said a woman who is a SAHM does contribute, why would it be different for a man, he said it just is

In this day and age, it shouldn't matter. My husband makes more than me but if it were revearsed, I don't think he would have a problem with it.

Speaking from experience (I was making 3x as much as JT), it caused not one problem. There's no reason for it to cause one.

I make more money than my DH, and it hasn't ever been a problem. DH is very proud of me and my career. He loves to tell people 'my wife is an engineer'...so cute :)
My x-bf however had a big problem with it due to his own insecurities! What a world of difference a persons own self confidence can make!

I think it totally depends on your individual situation. Before I was a SAHM, I earned more than my DH, but not by alot, only about $10K - so, it never bothered him at all.
I agree w/Elizabeth, tho...DH would gladly 'joke' about it, AND he'd also have no prob staying home w/our son. And I agree w/Shamma too - being a SAHM is a HUGE contribution to a household....fulltime daycare costs can range from $10K - 14K, depending on your needs!

I think it depends on the individual man. Fh would love if I made more money than him Fh always says that he would love to stay home with our kids.
