When I send out my STDs in May, I was thinking I might send them along with a little note saying we plan to block of rooms at a hotel and if anyone already knows they are interested in staying to let us know ahead of time so we can get an accurate count of how many rooms we will need.
Do you think this is a good idea? Has anyone else done this?

I think thats fine. I know some ppl block rooms first and mail that info out with their STDs. Its important for ppl to have that info esp in advance so they know how to plan

I thought about doing that, but just put our wedding website, where I have an accomodations section. In that section, I explain the block situation and to book ASAP just in case it fills up.

ok thanks girls.
I know I am probably going to need a lot of rooms and I know certain hotels say that after a certain amount you have to pay something for the extra rooms that were blocked but not taken. This way I can know just how many I'm going to need.

I'm putting my hotel info in my STD's that are going out soon. We're getting married on Labor Day weekend so I want people to be able to book now instead of when the invites go out.

Most hotels will only reserver 10 or 15 rooms at max for you. If the rooms get booked, they'll add extras, unless the hotel is fully booked. If you think you'll have more people than rooms, I suggest booking multiple hotels. (You might want to book multiple hotels just to give people the option of different price-points anyway.)
I personally think if you ask people so far in advance about hotel rooms, they probably will not even pay attention to it. Most people booked hotels 5-8 weeks before our wedding. Some people booked it the week of!

Re: Do you think this a good idea?
We actually booked a block of rooms and then in the STD put a hotel enclosure (Vista Print) asking the guests to book as soon as possible. We only blocked 10 rooms so if more are needed the hotel will easily be able to set aside more rooms.
