Do you tip an Officiant?

Do you tip an Officiant?

My friend just had her wedding a few weeks ago. The Rev. was over 1/2 hr late arriving (car trouble) then got lost but didn't call (the groom called him from his own cell asking where he was) and then after all that she tipped him $50! My friend really took things well and handled it beautifully but tipping the officiant after THAT?
Are you suppose to tip them?

Given the circumstance, I wouldn't have. If ANY vendor arrived late, I wouldn't or at least cut down their tip. Something weird about tipping 'a man of the cloth' but if you're happy with their service, just like any service, you should....

exactly... are you suppose to tip a man/woman of the cloth? They are there for the exact service of marriage ceremony (in her case 15 minutes) and they get paid pretty well already.

I heard they usually get tipped.

I gave mine $100... but he was really great throughout the whole process.

thanks for letting me know what you did... I guess anyone providing you a service gets tipped.

Etiquette says that you shouldn't, because of what they do.

My officiant asked for a ridiculously humble amount, because this is what she loves to do. She was incredible, and my father tipped her $150. I was completely supportive of it.

Honestly, the break down was not the officiants fault. You don't know what transpired after that, and why they did decide to tip him.
