...is the owner of his own company, like a photographer? How about a makeup artist who freelances and is coming to my home? Any suggestions?

from what i've heard and read (on LIW) you don't have to tip the owners.

Re: Do you tip someone who...
I tipped ALL my vendors, regardless of whether or not they owned their business. Actually, all of them DID own their own business. If they do a good job, they absolutely deserve a tip.

I tip because they still have to pay for the materials and products they use to perform their services. I get my hair done in my friends house and I still tip her.

HUGE DITTO!
Tipping is for good service, period!
How would you feel if you owned your own business? I think it's baloney that small business owners get relegated to 'don't tip'...why? They work just as hard, if not harder!

I would tip no matter whether they own the business or not-unless they were horrible then I would think about it

I would tip them regardless of if they're the owner or not. Etiquette might say not to but one of my friends owns her own business and doesn't make as large a profit as people think once she pays for materials, etc.
