Do you tip the cable guy?

The cable guy is coming to install a new cable box. How much should I give him? He was supposed to be here between 9 and 11 and he's still not here yet!

me too, former bartender..but it has never even ran through my mind to tip them.

at first i didn't think so either, but dh insists that b/c he's coming to the house to perform a service you should tip.

Stupid me tipped our cable guy $20 when he came to install our cable and he did a sh$t job. I felt bad because I asked him to run cable wire from my living room to my bedroom so we could have a box in there and it looks terrible. I shoud've known that DH was capable of doing it much better. After he left, I was kicking myself for giving him so much $$$. So my answer would be NO! Don't be a fool like me.

We gave him $20 because FH wanted him to hide all the cables. He did take care of us.

I tip for almost everything(I'm a bartender), but tipping the cable guy, con-ed guy and the phone guy has never crossed my mind.

FH is a corporate Cablevision employee. According to him, they are not supposed to take tips but rarely refuse them. Don't ask - don't tell.

Same here...for 13 years. I never even thought to tip them. They are usually not around long enough to warrant a tip.

I will only tip a guy if he does some serious wiring for me.

Unplugging a cable box and plugging another one in doesn't warrant a tip.

If you can train an 8 year old to do the same thing... doesn't warrant a tip.
