Do you want to see the BEST cakes around??

I waitress on the weekends sometimes for weddings.. etc and we did a big wedding on saturday in East Hampton and Sylvia Weinstock was there! She made their cake (5,000.00 by the way) It was Gorgeous!! The only problem was.. we took off the top layer to save and later found out it was all stirafoam!!
But the cake was gorgeous.. here's the ladies website.. enjoy FAB CAKES
p.s all the flowers you see on the cakes are EDIBLE!!! they looked soooo real!!

$5000 for styrofoam???????????? I guess only the bottom layer was actually cake?

I wonder how much more it would have been to make the whole thing out of actual CAKE!

it was 4 tiers .. just the top layer wasn't cake.. but we served the whole cake.. but there was also a grooms cake that they took home instead! I thought the flowers were real on the cake. You could never tell the difference!!!

It's funny you should mention this..

I was reading 'Chicken Soup for the Bride's Soul' and this one newly married couple, gave up their freezer for a year because they wanted to save the top of their cake, but had a small freezer. So their anniversary comes and it was styrofoam!

beautiful cakes though!

Beautiful cakes...but I can be honest and say I went to a wedding that had her make the cake...and the taste of the cake wasn't impressive.

That stinks that the top layer was styrofoam.

She's expensive because she has the name though.

OMG that's HORRIBLE but FUNNY!!! They must have been SO upset that they gave up their freezer for a YEAR and then had no cake to eat!

My MOH and I got tickets last year for the Martha Stewart Wedding Show and Sylvia Weinstock was there!! With a few of her cakes -- they were absolutely gorgeous!! And the sugared flowers look so real it's hard to tell they are fake!! But for $5000 I'd rather put the $$ somewhere else

Re: Do you want to see the BEST cakes around??

Sylvia is doing my cake for my wedding and she mentioned she does a fake styrofoam layer for brides that want the 'look' of a big cake without really having one. I love her work and cant wait to see how my wedding cake turns out.

Yes all the flowers are edible, they're made out of sugar dough, she said they last literally forever so you can save them. I agree too that its pretty cool you can eat all the flowers!

ETA: I have pictures of her cakes in my wedding album as well if anyone wants to see more.
