I don't get it doesn't the Maitre do or can do what a DOC does at the reception. Mom think it is a good idea to hire DOC but I don't know if that would be a waste of money for me. What ya think? I was kinda of against having one.

Re: DOC vs. Maitre D
I agree w/ you...it's the banquet manager's and the m.d.'s job to set everything up, and the m.d's job to make sure everything runs smoothly and how you'd like it. I am just going to type up instructions about how I was everything, and give it to the m.d.-- like where I want decorations, how favors are to be distributed, etc. Plus, I know at my hall, they also give you a bridal attendant, so there is one more person to make sure everything runs smoothly.

Re: DOC vs. Maitre D
The Maire'D is responsible for the flow of the party & coordinating the Back of House with the Front of house. The Day of coordinator will basically keep the maitre'd on your schedule as far as making sure all of your smaller details happend how & when you want them too. The Bridal attendant will be there for you if you need anything.

Re: DOC vs. Maitre D
The Maitre D make sure things run smoothly with the hall, but they do not take care of the little things for you, what they mostly take care of the food and make sure it comes out, now your DOC would make sure that your food is coming out on time, and remember the Maitre D is only at the reception site, she is not at your house or with you before you reach the reception site, she does make sure that your cermony location is set up and everyone is on time, and rounding people up for pictures, the Maitre D or Bridal Attendent does not take care of that..
I can see why a BM and DOC would probably bump heads, because your DOC would be on your BM to make sure that you are getting what you want..

Re: DOC vs. Maitre D
I decided to hire a DOC. It really wasn't a lot of $$$ (trust me we are counting penny's bc FH & I are paying for everthing). For me the DOC offered something invaluable-peace of mind. I don't want my mom, MOH or FMIL to deal with anything on the big day. I especially don't want to deal with anything other than get married and have a good time. I have also been given discounts from vendors bc of the relationship my DOC has with them. Even though she is hired just for the day she has been at my service since I hired her. If my BM doesn't like that I have someone looking out for my best interest that's his/her problem

sometimes..if the DOC does not have food service experience it can get messy. Food timing is hard, and if the DOC wants to *change* something after the food prep has already begun, then the MD looks like (s)he cannot control their kitchen....

Re: DOC vs. Maitre D
Getting a DOC is all up to you. I was unsure about getting one. But once I started reading all of the past brides most of them who got one said it was the best thing that they did. A DOC is with you from when you wake up in the AM till you are at your final place at the end of the night. I meet with a DOC and she went over past situations where a DOC was needed. I like the idea of having someone there for me. Maitre D and Bridal Attendant work for you hall. A DOC is there for you. Just my opinion. Its your day and what ever would make you feel good is what you should do.

I could see that. My BM made it VERY clear that they were very very good at what they do.. that the ceremony would be flawless as well as the reception..... I guess Id hate it if someone came into MY job and told me what to do.

Re: DOC vs. Maitre D
I hired a DOC and to be honest it was almost the first things I did.
A DOC is with you all day, she is the first vendor to arrive and the last one to leave. Her job is to be there for me and my FH and to make sure that nothing goes wrong. Your Maitre D is there to take care of any problems that arise with the hall (food, service, etc....) they are not with you while your Photographer is taking pics and forgets to take a special one you wanted or making sure that the bridal party is in order, vendors are all doing what they are supposed to, flowers get there and everything it where it should be. My DOC will be the one that will do that for me.
I don't want anyone in the BP worrying about anything or my MOH running around to make sure I am happy. My DOC will do the leg work and the only job the rest of us will have is to just have fun!

Re: DOC vs. Maitre D
I'm not having a DOC. I wish there was money in the budget for it, but I think the Maitre D and the bridal attendant should be able to handle it. I wouldn't mind having someone else to help back my mom and I on some issues we are having with the FH.

Re: DOC vs. Maitre D
well in my opinion I didnt see a need for a DOC I think my wedding will be just fine without a DOC - im not stressing the little things so I would rather take the money I would use for a DOC and spend it towards my honeymoon... thats just my intake on on it.

I agree...I haven't been told anything about my hall's opinion on the DOC, but I have attended affairs there, and the M.D. and BM seem to put out all the decorations, and I was told they would take care of that stuff the day of my wedding- I guess the way I look at it, is that if I am really prepared and trust my vendors and hall, then it is unneccesary to pay someone else to do a job that will already be done.

Re: DOC vs. Maitre D
Having a DOC at your house with you and your family may be annoying. I know it's wonderful to make sure things run smoothly, but it is also a pain to have someone up your butt. It's your call. Good luck!
