I see a lot of you ladies are getting a DOC...can anyone explain to me a little better what their job actually is, and how much do they usually cost?

Their job is to be there every step of the way that day to help you in any way you need help to make sure all your vendors will show up on time, that everything you want it exactly as you want it, and to overall make your day 100% stress free - all you have to worry about is enjoying the day with your FH.
It's a great person to have if you have the extra money to get one, but it's completely not necessary. Many people have had their weddings without hiring one and everything went fine.

Re: DOC..do I need one?
i love love love my DOC-- shes priced a little more than other DOC's for 10 hours however she does amazing amazing work (mostly because she was an event planner at Carnegie Hall on a much larger scale before she started doing weddings)
Regina will be with me all morning and then leave after our first dance. Here is some of what shes doing for us 2 weeks before the wedding she becomes the main source of contact for all my vendors-- so that if any of them have questions i dont have 10 vendors calling me-- they will call her and she'll contact me once ask all the questions and get back to everyone. she also takes all my contracts and all money due to vendors-- she'll handle all tips the day of-- if theres a vendor issue she'll take care of it. I believe the maitre d at FT is amazing and thats why she'll leave after the first dance as FT will have everything in control.
Plus here is what she has listed on her website. she is beyond amazing-- and if its in your budget I say go for it. She does les than 10 hours also-- i chose 10 because of the amount of people we're having its just going to be mass confusion.
* Complimentary Initial Consultation * Unlimited consultation via telephone and email * Final detailing appointment during the month of the wedding * Confirmation and coordination of all vendor details, contracts and scheduling the week before the wedding * Wedding Day Timeline and Itinerary * Distribution of final balance and gratuities to vendors on your behalf * Ensure proper placement of place cards, photographs, menu cards, unity candle, programs, petals, guest book, and favors * Site inspection and set-up confirmation of ceremony and reception locations * Wedding Day “Kit of Essentials” * We will be there by your side ready to troubleshoot any emergencies or unexpected occurrences!

Re: DOC..do I need one?
I felt it was necessary for me to get one because I’m doing photos before the ceremony at our RH site, then going to church for ceremony, and then back to RH. My DOC is arriving around 11am (we’re doing photos at the RH site at 2pm, so she’ll be there while flowers are being delivered, hair/makeup, etc.) and she’s leaving 10 hours later at about 9pm which should be just around the time people are starting to eat. After that, I have the bridal attendant and maitr’D to help me out.

Yes! I think it is a great way to decrease stress the day of the wedding AND it allows you, FH, and you parents to all be 'guests' at the wedding when you are not worrying/ running around/dealing with mishaps/ making final payments/tips/ etc.

I totally agree. I was never even considering getting a DOC, and now that I have one I dont think I could do it without her!!!! So happy I decided to get one!

Re: DOC..do I need one?
I think depending on the size of your wedding it is necessary... My friends had 80-100 guests and they did fine....
I've seen some of you have like 200 and 300 and that might help...
My GL is only 74 right now...we are hoping that some say NO...lol
