Ok so a lot of my friends are recommending a DOC...however my FH is VERY against having one becuase he thinks they are a waste of money.
What is everyone's opinions? Advantages? Disadvantages? Prices?
Thanks so much ladies!

Re: DOC...is there a need for one? Opinions please
FH's are always against a DOC in the beginning.
DOC's range from $400-$700; I paid $550.
Advantage: NO STRESS, she/he takes care of everything you ask them to so you can enjoy your day.
Disadvantage: hmm, if you book her/him for the entire night, you need to pay for their meal. Honestly,to me, there is no real disadvantage of having a DOC. I don't think I would be able to maintain my sanity without my DOC; she's great and I know she will be able to handle anything that may happen.
I booked with Christine from Exquisite Affairs Productions; she's great.
If you do get a DOC, you must have good chemistry with him/her; you need someone who understands what you want and will make sure you get it.

initially FH did not understand why I needed a DOC but after coming with me to meet with them he started to understand.
Take your FH with you to meet with possible DOC's and ask them to tell you stories about how they've helped past brides. Let them explain how they can help you the day of.
I've met my DOC once, but I contact her all the time and she's very helpful. She recommends vendors and even calls them up if I can't get to it.

I didnt need one and IMO you only need one if you are have a large wedding or have some sort of family circumstance that you dont have help. My RH took care of everything the day of.....If I was going to have help it would have been during the planning not the day of...by the time the day of happens everything is set and the RH will make sure everything flows with the help of the DJ.
Not a needed expense!!!!

IMO I want to do it all on my own.. I think it's an un needed expense. But then again I have 3 years to plan mine. But my Family & bridal party have been more than helpful already in planning so far. So I guess it all depends on your own situation! HTH!

That's very true. I got one because I'm having a huge wedding and there are people in FH's and my family that will drive me crazy and I just don't need to deal with any of that. My DOC can deal with them and their issues. And I would like my parents and my FIL's to just sit back and relax the day of the wedding. I don't want any of us too stressed.

Yes I understand totally! Our wedding will probably be 220max people so it's not that bad. My friend had a DOC for her wedding last year & she was wonderful.. She even fed my friend in between pictures lol It's like a luxury. Good luck with your wedding planning!

I orginally didnt think nor wanted a DOC for our wedding. But we had gotten engaged on Christmas, and were planning a wedding in a little over 8 months! Normaly I like to think I am super woman & I can handle EVERYTHING...well it got to a point about 2 months before the wedding & I was like...'ACK!...I NEED HELP!' We live 2 hrs away from LI now & it was very difficult to get in touch w/ certain vendors -and to be honest - I liked having the peace of mind knowing that someone else was running the show & I had less thinking to do about all the little things and was able to focus more on me & DH. I agree it was an expense - but let me tell you I would pay it again in a heartbeat - my DOC - Gina Griffin of Bleu Diamond Events - was so astounding for us. She not only took our vision of a beach-themed wedding & brought our vision to life - but she really helped keep me calm - she was there for me for ANYTHING I needed - and that was SO comforting to have in the back of my mind. Not to mention that she came back to our hotel at 1:45 a.m. after the wedding to p/u my dress & held on to it & all my wedding details a month after the wedding - no complaints - no phone calls of when are you coming to get your stuff - she was just so accommodating & wonderful to work with - when you get someone like Gina - it's SOOOOO worth having a DOC for the day of - just my 2 cents.

Re: DOC...is there a need for one? Opinions please
Speaking from experience, I would def recommend having one for a wedding of 70+ guests. I did not have a DOC for my wedding. I regret not having one and could had use someone to assist and help on my wedding day! It got really hectic relying on MOH or BM's. For ex, our payments for the vendors were arranged in envelopes. When it came time to give the payments, our envelopes were passed off from one person to another. This looked bad on my part b/c it was disorganized and vendors had to wait for us to locate the payment envelopes. Another problem was having an extra eye around when something goes wrong with the vendors. This happened with our florist and caterer. When you rely entirely on your wedding party (esp if they're in the ceremony) is things can and will prob get misplaced or thrown around. Don't risk it on your big day. Try net-working or browse through craigslist as well as LIW forums to see if you can find someone affordable. This is def an expense you do not want to skimp on esp on your big day! Expect to spend around $500+ for DOC.

Between my 2 aunts, mom, sister (MOH), me, FSIL, the RH, I really don't think I'll need one. I could use one now though in the planning phase. I have to notebook everything so that I don't forget things like slippers for the female guests, or to add myself and FH to the guest list!

To me it is NOT worth it..this is my opinion on it..
everything that the DOC does, I can do.
Why would I pay someone all this money to do what I can?
I booked my wedding 2 years in advance, and just did everything little by little. I got everything done, and day of if anyone had any questions, they came to me. I had nothing go wrong on my wedding day, and didnt have a DOC. my reception hall was great and everything ran smoothly.
