Does a caricature artist during cocktail hour ruin the elegance?

I will be having a good number of children under the age of ten (probably around 7-9 kids), and a lot of kids from ages 10-18 at my cocktail hour and reception.

I was thinking of having a caricature artisit do funny pics for people during the cocktail hour to keep the kids and other younger guests entertained. But the cocktail hour is going to be elegant. We're having a celtic harp, lots of fancy flowers and great decorations. Would a caricature artist ruin the elegance? Any other suggestions?

honestly--with having such an elegant CH with the harp and such---i wouldn't like the caricaturist. but that's JMO

i'm not sure what else to recommend--perhaps you can ask your RH if they have any suggestions? another room the kids could be in for the CH and you could hire a baby sitter for them during that time? will the parents not be able to take care of the kids during the CH?

I'm not sure how long it takes to do one caricature, but I'd be worried that 1. The kids might be disappointed if you run out of time and 2. It might be difficult to get people to move into the reception room if they are too busy getting a caricature done. I personally would skip it, but if you like it, I say go for it!!

Parents will be there but will probably be socializing and most parents in the Indian community have NO issues with letting their children run wild (as long as they aren't knocking people over). It's just a culture thing, I guess.

The cocktail hour is going to be a in a huge room so there aren't any separate rooms available for kids.

I think the artist sitting there could ruin the elegance, but I don't know what to do about the kids. It also depends on where the artist sits. If he's right next to the harp player, it will take away from the elegance.

i think it would take away from elegant feel you are going for. I would also be worried that 1 caricature may take 25 mins.. then what? the kids would feel cheated that they all didnt get one. I dont know what else to suggest, but I would pass on that. JMO.

I dont think it would ruin the elegance as long as the guy isnt dressed like a clown or something. I say go for it! It will keep the kids busy and also give them a keepsake to bring home with them.

I honestly would find some time to do it during the actual reception rather then the CH if you really wanted this. When kids first get to a place they've never been before, they usually are a bit on the shy side. Once they warm up, then it's a whole different game. None the less, what if it does take too long in just that 1 hour...That wouldn't be too good....JMO
