Does alcohol HAVE to be part of the per-person charge?

Does alcohol HAVE to be part of the per-person charge?

Are RH's willing to NOT include alcohol as part of the overall package price per person? Most of the stuff I've looked at so far includes the '5 hour open bar' in the package, but pretty much all of FH's family doesn't drink - they're Muslim. My family's your typical Irish-American crew and so...we drink. Well, most of us, anyway!

Basically, FH and I don't want to be paying an alcohol charge per person if more than half of the guests (his fam is huge) isn't going to be consuming it. Has anyone else dealt with this kind of situation? We're thinking of maybe doing beer and wine, two signature cocktails and then for the non-drinkers, two signature 'mocktails'. Are RH's cool with a request like this? I definitely don't want to do a cash bar.

I tried doing a search on this but didn't find anything, so sorry if this topic has been discussed before. I'm new at wedding planning and LIW! So, um...hi!

I can't imagine that your RH wouldn't work with you on this. Explain the situation to them and see what kind of deal they can give you.

Hi and Congrats! I actually dont know the answer to your question. I think you would have to talk to each RH individually.

Thanks!

Anyone else have personal experience with a situation like this?

Most will not be willing to divided in the way you needed it. Half the guests drink the other half dont. You may want to do an unlimited beer and wine and then pay for the drinks (have a tab).

They wont be willing to do open bar for half because it will be hard for them to keep track of who drinks and who doesnt vrs who was paid for....you know what I mean?

Ah! --smacks self in forehead-- start a tab! I do this almost every weekend when I go out, why didn't I think of that?!

Sometimes th emost obvious answer is right in front of ya.

Thanks for making me see the light!

but in reality the add on for open bar per person isnt that much cuz they do take into consideration some people not drinking. they actually recommend getting the open bar because if half the people drink you will most likely pay more with a tab (MUCH MORE!). Also because usually if people have a choice between beer and hard liquor they will have the hard you are better off not giving the choice...

Just get the open bar anyway even thought half don't drink. I wouldn't do a Tab...

Im doing the same. we decided not to have a full bar mostly bc of money and the time of day. we asked if we could do with out the full bar and the RH said it wouldnt be a problem.. We are still getting unlimited beer wine and soda and a champage toast. Just talk to them. If they really want your business they will work with you.

They should def work with you. Explain it to them, I'm sure its not uncommon.

i actually asked one of the first rhs i looked at about this bc my family is very religious and a lot don't even approve of others drinking..

but they told me it would only take 5 off pp to have absolutely NO alcohol whatsoever

needless to say i didn't think it was worth it
