I'm a Hofstra student, but I'm taking this semester off, so I'm out of the loop, but I heard a rumor about them closing New College, which is my college!!!! Does anyone know anything about this?

I'm an academic adviser here (at work right now) - marymoon - did I ever meet you? :) A student actually came in yesterday and said she heard that and that is the first I've heard - I'll do some investigating!

i went there for undergrad... and ever since rabinowitz became president, he wanted to make the school 'more prestigous', so I wouldnt doubt the rumor of them ending new college, but I do know alot of students were in the program, so hopefully not!

I just spoke to my mom (works at Hofstra-English dept.). She said it's semi true. Apparently it's been a battle for some time about whether to close it or not. She says it sounds like it most likely will be closed.

Mrs Wask, you've probbaly never met me b/c I'm in NC and I don't know any advisers outside of NC! I really hope they don't dissolve it. they'll be making a HUGE mistake. NC attracts really creative, curious and talented people. I love it. I hate hofstra and love new college. And about 'prestige', NC students have a higher HS GPA on avg and higher SAT scores than the hoftra population at large, so I really don't get it actually.
I hate hofstra. I'm having such problems... I basically just didn't register for this semester and now I want to come back in the spring part time and I don't know what to do, and they terrible thing about being in NC is that they don't handle the big stuff and when you go to memorial, they have NO idea how to help you and you get the roayal runaround...grrrrr

i know how you feel, what they didn't do to me when i had two different names from my maiden name and married name...you would have thought it was an fbi secret....
i think there is some truth to it, but not quite sure how much....call new college

How sad that would be. I have known some really talented people who came out of NC. My Hofstra roommates husband did NC and he went on to Hofstra Law and now works for the town of Hempstead.
I hope they don't close it.

I HATE HOFSTRA TOO...WITH PASSION. They make my blood boil so much! I went there for a half a semester (if that) and stopped going and they screwed up my loan paperwork and now want me to pay for the full semester and i refuse to pay any of it and have paperwork to prove a lot of what happened and they keep ignoring my father and I when we call, say 'we can't read the fax', stuff like that. I never got my loan, because they never sent the paperwork to the government, therefore I stopped going and can't believe they expect a payment out of me. See...I'm all worked up now!
