someone asks you what something for your wedding costs OR who is paying for something wedding related??????????????
I feel like I get those questions a lot and quite frankly- it's nobody's business! but I never know how to politely respond
EDIT: I didn't mean when people on here ask- I meant when people ask u in person

of course that's awkward...I mean what other situation is it appropriate to ask someone such personal financial questions?? Why is it cool to do it now then...its not. Usually when people ask I give them the appalled look..they know they're wrong before they ask, it's the curiosity that kills their common sense

ha! Good call w/ the look, but now that I think about it- I was asked that question today on the phone! The look doesn't actually work then It was a friend so I just told her but I felt awkward about it because she is in a totally different situation than me

Nobody has asked me how much we are spending on anything and I wouldn't tell anyone if they did. That is really rude! The only times I've been asked about cost are from people on here, and I don't mind sharing because they are asking for their own information while planning their own weddings, not to be nosy or rude.
Ex: I happily answered a lot of FMs today about our tux info

Yes I thinks its normal to feel that way. Its like no matter what you say , they give you a look I always say thanks for asking but I'd rather not discuss, unless its someone I know who is getting married themselves, then I usually share

yeah unless its a friend that I know is intersted for their ownself... like if they are seeing if they can afford a wedding orthe place I got married at,.. I dont usually tell anyone how much people are giving me if anything though

We get some naive, younger people who ask us...but we just say, 'A lot'. It's our business and noone else's! We don't share personal financial matters with anyone!

OMG that happened to me this morning!!!!! The lady in the Cafeteria started asking me all these questions about the wedding and asked how much it was per plate.... i felt so weird telling her the amount and even contemplated not telling her anything, but than i figured maybe she will feel sorry for me and not always charge me for lunch!
I really didnt feel right telling her, but i dunno how to politely say MYOB!!!!!!!

hate that - unless its friends/peers and close family like our parents then i think its really tacky....the worst is when ppl ask how many carats my ring is or how much my FH paid for it some people are really tacky!! i try not to talk about wedding stuff too much that way people dont have the opportunity to ask!

really not too many people have asked not even family which i wouldnt mind but i think a person I hardly knew asked and I told them politely it is my business and it kind of varies with price range

it is awkward because they ask and I'm like ermmm.... and when I finally tell them they're like 'wow then $100 is not going to cut it' then i'd be like 'its fine' then there is a ackward silence... so I just dont answer anymore..

I definitely agree. I think it's awkward, and I also think it's kind of rude. Unless they want to pay for something, I dont think it's anyone's business. (not talking about girls on here of course) Just outside people. It kinda pisses me off at times to be honest.

Its unbelieveably ackward, I had a co-worker ask once and when I looked really uncomfortable, she kind of backed off on the question. I think when someone asks me and they have a possiblity of being invited to the wedding, it just feels rude of them. Like maybe they are trying to size up how much we're spending on them as guests.
I've had people ask if I was hiring a band or a DJ or if who helping us to pay for the wedding... even those questions make me feel uncomfortable, but generally I have disclosed that type of information over actually $$$ being spent.

Nobody has asked me about $$$ at all!!! just things like did i go dress shopping yet, what color BM dresses, where are we going for honeymoon, etc...

i have the policy of not talking about money, politics or religion in conversations. so if anyone ever asks about the wedding i jokingly say 'its alot more than a carton of milk' and dismiss the rest.
