I have always had 'weak knees'...especially when it rains or is humid. And if I bang it even the slightest bit, it swells up immediately. Sometimes during the night I wake up in excruciating pain and must take like 3 advil right away.
Anyone ever have this? And what did you do about it? I always read about glucosamine and a lot of OTC supplements that help with joint pain...lol i feel like an old lady!

Re: Does anyone else get knee pain and swelling?
it aint funny... Id see a doctor.. I had torn mensicus. (sp) in my left knee. At first it wasnt too bad.. no surgery needed but I got better drugs to help reduce swelling and handle the pain.
Then 9/11 happened.. tore all four (both sets in each knee) badly enough to need surgery for the left knee.
Surgery was fine.. rehab wasn't too bad.. but I was unlucky.. my cartilage never readhered back to my knee correctly so I still have pain and swelling from time to time. I find Vitamins B & E plus calcium help. I also have more Physical Therapy ahead wish always helps.
Good luck!

yep...acl tear here. and FH has torn miniscus (sp?) it can be a very serious problem that can lead to severe arthritis.
especially with 'swelling' it could be an indication of 'Water on the knee'
Be careful & take it easy

Re: Does anyone else get knee pain and swelling?
Yes. I have chondromalacia and when it first struckl me, I had severe pain in my knee, especially when walking up or down stairs, and when I sat or stood in one position for too long and then changed. It hit me in the winter time, which made it even worse. I've torn ligaments in my other knee, and between the two, whenever the weather gets funky, my knees tend to hurt and swell a little. Have you experienced any trauma to your knee lately or are you athletic? You might want to see an orthopedist if it continues.

Re: Does anyone else get knee pain and swelling?
Just FYI on the crunching or popping sounds.. sometimes these things just happen..mine still pops and makes odd grinding noises.. i had a GREAT Physical therapist in Garden City no frills kinda gal. She says you can't make that stop.. it just happens.
PS: for torn menscus (Sp) up and down hills hurt as much or more than stairs.. because of the angle.. where as sometimes you walk at 90 angles on stairs and take the weight on your knee fully. It's the 45 degrees angle or less of your knee with weight that really hurts. Hence hills are bad, especially down. Plus in severe cases (like mine) the knee completely gives out. I was in target.. I went face first in the carpet isle, I was embarassed.
Thank god FH takes care of me..
If you need the name of a good Physcial Therapist .. FM me..she was great.. She was my second one.. got done in a month and a half what the others took 4 months to fail at.

Oh, X, that s*cks. I can totally relate to the hill thing...that was a sonofab*tch for me, too. And I've also done the falling flat on my face thing, but luckily, it was mostly in the privacy of my own home.
My knees crack 99.9% of the time that I crouch down for anything.

everyone is right to see a doctor..but what's interesting is that it could be your feet! i had knee problems and the doctor referred me to a podiatrist..turns out I need to wear orthodics in my shoes to help raise my arches. (I know it sounds like an old lady but it's not really that bad!!)
My 'Flat feet' were putting pressure on my knees and my hips esp. during exercise. just thought you shoudl look into all your options!

Re: Does anyone else get knee pain and swelling?
Jessnjoey: .. Nooo i totally agree. Actually since my knee surgery I can't wear flats.. my knees kill me.. I have to wear slight heels to be comfy.. i am nearly flat footed myself.. i have only a slight arch...
I could use those pediothingies... but.. can't afford it.
bottom line is see a doctor..OH and if they say 'its nothing..' (my first doctor after 9/11 thought it was only brusies!!) get a SECOND OPINION.
brusies.. idiot man.. the one that looked like a shoe were brusies.. the ones that turned every color in the rainbow were more than just brusies.
