Everytime FI or I mention to someone that we are getting married (not close friends or family) they ask if I'm pregnant - which I'm not.
FI finally got fed up this weekend when his ex girlfriend (they broke up in June 2000) asked if I'm pregnant. He went to pick up his son (9 years old) and told her that we are engaged. He had previously told her we were getting married but that was before he bought the ring.
She immediately asked if I am pregnant!!! FI said 'No, she is not pregnant. I am getting married because I love her.' That shut her up really fast. But it's not just her. Lot's of people have asked us if we're having a baby.
Don't people get married anymore just because they found someone to love and want to be together?

i didn't know in order for you to get married you need to be pregnant. some people. what happened to loving the person and you want to spend the rest of your life with that person

I got that one too from FSIL (family instigator and busy body). I think that was just her way of asking if I'm pregnant though since it took FBIL 20 years, two prior marriages and two sons to marry her.
She was the woman on the side for 20+ years so she is bitter. She even admitted that much saying when people on the street would assume she and FBIL were married (while out with their sons) she would get angry and yell at them saying 'No, I'm not good enough to marry but I have his 2 kids.' What a nut case.
She has been married to him for about 8 years now (sons are 14 and like 20) and she still brings it up. Bitter even after he married her!! I feel sorry for him.

I think it's happening a lot at my office because a few women that were married within the last 2 - 3 months are due to have children in January - April. Based on the dates, it's obvious that they were pregnant before the wedding but still - what if a wedding was in the works before the pregnancy.
People are just so nosy and rude!!!!
FI says it's because lots of people get married for the wrong reasons (one of them needs a green card, having a baby, financial situation) so it's only natural for outsiders to assume we are following suit. It doesn't help that so many celebs make marriage seem like a farce aka Britney Spears, JLo and Brandy (never married they still pretended since they had a baby).
I told FI that once we get the bull dog he wants, I will send out a birth announcement.

Wow, these people must have some serious free time on their hands if they can think of such things. Yes, it's incredibly rude. You can't control such thoughts, but don't these people think about what they are going to say... what's that famous saying 'PLEASE ENGAGE BRAIN BEFORE OPENING YOUR MOUTH'
You think they could spend all of the free time they spend concocting theories as to your marriage on other more productive uses.
1. These people need to be enrolled in manners bootcamp.
2. They obviously have too much downtime. Maybe if they found something constructive to do they wouldn't think of as many stupid things to say. Funny, I think the cure for cancer is still out there somewhere.

It's a wonder any work ever gets done around this place. Everyone seems so consumed with which woman is pregnant or who is hooking up or having an affair on their spouse.

FI says that too. He thinks that SIL is jealous because I did not have to wait 20 years, 2 prior wives and have 2 kids before he would marry me.
As for FI's ex, I know that is why she's asking if I'm pregnant - trying to find some reason why FI wants me and didn't marry her. They broke up in June 2000 and she knows that if they did not have a child, FI would NEVER speak to her again. She has said as much.
I have no idea why all the other people ask. Some of them may genuinely think I'm pregnant until they ask. The others are just nosy as hell I guess....or trying to fiugre out why he picked me and not them...jealousy.

I get the same thing. Some people are genuinely curious and I don't mind. The ones that bug me are the ones that KNOW we are not having kids and think they can pressure us into it by CONSTANTLY nagging me about it. I tell those people 'He isn't marrying me for my ovaries.' Rude, but effective.

I got it when I said we were buying a house! But it is like random people who ask...my landlord at the time! I wanted to say 'no and if I was you would NOT be the person I would tell first!'
