Does anyone else hate getting their nails done alone?
I know I'm crazy, so that's not where I'm going with this ( ), but does anyone else dislike going to get their nails done alone, especially to a place where no one really speaks English?
I have GOT to get my nails done, but I've been putting it off because I don't feel like dealing with sitting there for an hour while people speak over me in another language and I have no one to talk to.
See, I told you I was crazy. I just wonder if I'm alone in my craziness.

I like all the women at my nails salon, and there is no language barrier...but I am the same way, I just hate getting my nails and hair done. I think it's because my schedule is so tight, and getting my nails done always takes such a huge chunk (1 hour 30 min. to 2 hours)...and my hair...forget it! I HATE getting it done...I LOVE my hairdresser, but I always spend 6 hours in his salon (for coloring/highlighting). The wait is ALWAYS so long, he always juggles 2-3 customers at the same time, so you always wait.

Apparently, if I want to do away with the language barrier, I need to pay twice the amount of money.

I use togo to a place in East Meadow called Bella Nails they all spoke ENGLISH!!!! I hate getting my nails done when they don't speak english. I know they are talking about me.

Where in East Meadow? I may go there after work one day. I just think it makes the time go faster and is more pleasant when you can talk to the people there, and when I go alone, there's no one to talk to but myself. I'm not *that* crazy though!

LOL. It's on East Meadow Ave. There use to be a catering hall called Crystal Brook right across the street now it is a patio furniture store. It is own store but it is right next door to a hair salon called creative impresions (i think) its in a strip of stores!

Thanks! I'll have to see what their prices are like. My MIL lives in East Meadow. I should find out where she goes. At least then maybe we could go together after work. I have no friends in Queens to go with me.

I hate going alone, I always wait until my sister or a friend is available to go with me, which probably explains why I have my nails done maybe four times a year.

My nail lady is Italian American and we have become really good friends in the years I have gone there!!!
If you want her name/address let me know. She is the owner of the salon and she also cuts hair, etc. On Saturdays she has another girl there doing nails too.

They charge 25.00 for a regular fill in. But I know they don't make u pay like when u break a nail or something like that!

I don't like it either...I like o be relaxed when I do stuff like that & that scenario does not propogate a relaxing environment...JMHO

You are definetly NOT alone!!! I put it off all the time because all the places around my area are non-english. And usually the 'token' english speaking one doesn't know what they are doing!!!

i totally agree, I just hate the process of getting my hair and nails done- which is why i dont go very often. I never know what to tip, they never speak english and I get extremely inpatient and bored.

I hate going alone too. Let's start weekly GTG's to get our nails done!

I've got the permanent french manicure (AKA Solarnails) and they're growing out and chipping and I need a fill desperately. But the woman who did them for me initially spoke very little English, wore a face mask, and was barely audible when she did try to speak to me. It was not enjoyable in the least. If I'm getting my nails done, it's to pamper myself. I did not feel pampered, that's for darn sure!
Then again, it could have been the Dremel tool looking thingie she used and made me bleed that made me feel less than pampered.

What I dislike is when I'm sitting at the dryers and I'm surrounded by american women. Talk about awkward! I hate the women that feel the need to stike up a conversation b/c of the silence.

I agree. I actually prefer being alone because I can use that time to read a magazine, especially when getting a pedicure

I don't really like getting my nails done but I LOVE getting a pedicure. I read a mag also to give out the 'don't talk to me vibe'.
