for instance, FI wants to get a sectional sofa right away for our new coop that we just closed on.....BUT my parents are like just wait till July 4th for that sale....sometimes i feel like screaming?!?!?!

All the time...>FH says I don't do anything w/out checking w/ my mom and dad first. And then if I don't, they say things!

Um, when you buy your furniture is between you and your FI - not your parents.
You guys are grown-ups. You're not offending your parents by making your own decisions. If your parents would be offended that you'd buy furniture now and not do what they said, well, I'd consider that a problem. And if my FI always had to do what his parents said and never made decisions just the two of us, that'd be a huge problem for me, too. It would also be a huge problem for me if he consulted his parents on every little decision we made, too.

sometimes our parents really know the right thing to do... I bought my car without them knowing- could have gotten a better deal if I did tell my mom- sold our condo and bought a house- without help from the parents, we told them we didnt want the advice and wanted to do it on our own- we prob could have sold out condo for more- HOWEVER---- I WOULD NOT have changed it for a minute. I love my parents, and even though they are right on MANY things- I am glad that DH and have lived and learned on our own- we did things because we wanted to, the way we wanted to.
I think you and your FH need to start your life together and as much as you can think about your parents' opinions- it is really between you and FH now-
it is difficult at first though

i COMPLETELY understand... this is a tough adjustment to make. my FI and i are going through the same thing. i think it's important to make it understood, little by little, that you and FH will be making decisions independently. its something EVERYONE will need to get used to. its nice to ask for advice, but set a standard of making your own decisions now -- especially before kids are in the picture!!!
