Re: Does anyone go applepicking?
I go every year too!!!! We usually go on columbus day, but we have to block hotel rooms. The best area to go is out east on the north fork. Go to the outlets in riverhead. I think that is called main street. Well, keep going, pass the outlets. I would drive a good 15-20 minutes depending on traffic. There are at least 7 apple farms. I usually go all the way to cutchogue and start at Wickham farms and make my way back. If you need better directions, wickham farm has a website that lists directions. That's the farthest one I know, but getting there you'll pass a bunch of them along with winieries. Have fun!!

Re: Does anyone go applepicking?
I go in Ft. Salonga. It's off the Sagitos/Sunken Meadow, it's the exit before last? SM3? and it's 2 or 3 blocks off the exit you make a right at the sign and it's 1/4 mile down the road. Look up Ftr. Salonga Farm. however I went last year on Columbus Day weekend and they had too many people and had to tunr people (ncluding us, who had driven 80 miles0 away.

I usually go with my girlfriends each year. We leave at 7 a.m. go picking somewhere and come back to my friends house for noon and bake all day - pies, muffins, cookies, cakes, loafs, sauce, etc ...
We aren't doing it this year

It's a blast. My friend has 2 ovens so we bake like 10 pies, 6 cakes, 5 dozen muffins, 15 gallons of apple sauce, etc ... we end up with flour everywhere, and apples and peelings brimming the garbage, and basically look like he!! when we're finished!
It's just a really nice day to bond with the girls. It's me and 3 of my HS friends - who's married, who moved away but each year we get together and do this. We catch up on gossip and other things we don't normally talk about when were are just on the phone, you know.
This year we didn't because of my schedule (work/wedding) and one of my friends is due with twins very soon and she lives in Staten Island so she couldn't make it!
I'm looking forward to next year though.

ANY PLACES ON L.I
Ok, we (my coworker and I) had to call all the farms because we were getting plenty of calls for apple picking these past two weeks.
The only ones that still have apples available are:
North Fork
Wickhams Fruit Stand, Route 25 in Cutchogue
Fritz Lewin Farms, Edwards & Sound Avenue, Calverton.
These two said they will only have them threw Columbus Day.
Seven Ponds Orchard, 65 Seven Ponds Road, Water Mill.
These two did not say until when, but I would think threw Columbus Day also.
If you need the phone numbers, let me know, I have them.
I dont understand what do you mean : still have apples available
Are any of these place open on Columbus Day? It would be a nice thing for me and my boyz to do
This is according to the farms. They said threw Columbus Day and that afterwards I guess no more picking yourself will be available. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

No I got it off of Epicurious I think. It's quite good though - made with oatmeal. My friends like strusel topping instead though - both are good - different but good.
Can you FM me the Galette & Coffee Cake recipe? Yummm!
