Does anyone have a big, steel set of cojones they can lend me?

I am working up the nerve to go into my boss for a raise and I am soooooooooooo nervous

the one thing i try to tell myself in those types of situations is 'i'm not the first person in the world to ask for a raise!' he probably has dealt with this before so don't worry!

Ahh....sooo nervewracking!!!

I definitely *deserve* a raise.

My friend said to play up all my accomplishments and then ask *when* I can expect a raise that is in line with my work. Then wait. She said it will be uncomfortable, but don't be the first one to speak. The first one to speak, loses. She said even if you sit there for 10 minutes, don't speak. I will get so flustered. My hands are shaking!

Don't be! You know why you deserve the raise- now just tell him. The worst he can say is no... I agree with your friend. Be confident and just wait on him to answer. Also, ask for what you really want so if you have to negotiate at least you started high!

Good luck! I really hope that you get it. Honestly I have been in the same situation and the girls above gave great advice. One tip though try and keep eye contact. It will help your boss see how serious and confident you can be, even if you are dying inside.
