Does anyone have a Debbie Downer kinda person in their family?
Whenever I talk to my Mother she makes me depressed and feel bad about myself. I know she is upset about the thing with my brother (even though things are cleared up she just can't get over it hell I graduated in August and she is still upset that I didn't graduate in June she cried for months and months and months) She had a leak in her house in December. Well the kitchen is still a mess. Nothing has been worked on except the sheetrock was replaced because it was like -16 degrees out and they were freazing. Well she is depressed about that too. 'I can't look at this kitchen anymore' P.S. Allstate gave them a total of 17,000.00 to fix everything (all the carpets on the first floor 4 rooms and the stairs. The pergo floor in the kitchen has to be replaced. Their EXPENSIVE kitchen Table and chairs got ruined and their cabinets are all warped.) The estimate they got yesterday for Kitchen cabinets counter and instalation was 17,000.00 Now she is upset about that. I know she has problems, but she doesnt have to take everyone down with her. Im talking to her now and I say how I need a new job and she says why umm because I have a sh!ty job and I need more money and I want a new car. Shes all whats wrong with your car. Nothing is wrong with my car but its old its a 1994 honda civic for christ sake. ITS OLD...The car has been good to me but I want a nice new shiny car like my DH and all of my friends is that that horrible? Shes like do you really want a car payment right now? NO but I want a new car therefore I need a new job. I was feeling down and she brought me even more down.
Thanks for letting me vent.

I'm sorry to hear that!!! Don't let her get you down... if you want a new car, and a new job, then do what you want!!!
Moms don't always understand... especially when we want nicer things... you should have heard my dad when I told him I was moving out and buying a coop all by myself! (I really wanted to get out of the house for a LOOOONG time (like since I was 12) and since we canceled the wedding, I decided it was tiem to take the wedding money I saved and do something for myself!
When he found out, he went on a tirade how I was wasting money and selfish and why didn't i want to live with them, (because I had NO privacy!!!) The day i went to closing, I was stressed, it was the most money I ever spent on anything, and the first thing my dad said to me was, 'Well, do you regret it yet?' as if he WANTED me to be sad... I said, you know what, even if I was sad, with that comment, Thank You, I'm not anymore! You just strengthened my resolve and confirmed to me that this was the right decision!!
Just ignore her. I did. I love my apt. SOOO much better than living at home!!

Sorry Kristin!! Try not to let her get to you. You do what you have to do for yourself. My dad is sort of a Donald Downer. He always finds the bad in everything. My wedding itself he found something to upset me with. You are out on your own now, you need to live for yourself. If you want a new job and a new car, you do it. Don't let anyone bring you down. I learned to ignore my dad and live my own life, not telling him a lot of stuff and I am finding that I am much happier!!
ETA- that is what you are supposed to do in life, strive to get bigger and better things that make you happy. It is not right for her to knock you for wanting better. Maybe she is a bit jealous.

Thank you.
At my current job I took a test and I did good on everything but the math part. They wanted me to be a manager. I took it twice and failed the math part twice but only by a few questions I get so nervous Cause math is not my thing I start freaking out and can't think. Im upset about that. But unfortantly this is why I am at the same crappy job. I was hoping to do good and then make more money.

My SO is a math teacher so if you need any help, he might be able to explain it in an easy to remember way...
I hate when my palms sweat... then you can't concentrate at all... keep a paper towel folded up in your pockets and you can put your hands in your pockets and dry them off a little bit.

I know exactly what you are going through. I talk to my mom once a week and everytime I get off the phone, I feel depressed. My dh yells at me that I need to stop letting her annoy me and I know that I should but I don't. Nothing is ever good enough for her. Good luck and maybe both you and I will finally realize some day that we have to please ourselves and not our parents. It's so hard for me to do that!
