I thought it was something you had for life, I have had it for 3 years (maybe longer) and they say you don't always feel it, just when the levels are elevated (determined in a blood test).

Re: Does Anyone Have Epstein Barr?

Epstein-Barr is the virus that causes Mono. I had mono when I was 17, and the levels of Epstein-Barr were elevated in my blood for about four or so months. They were concerned it was the 'chronic' type. But soon after I started to feel better and I have never had it again...that I know of.

By the time you're in your 20s almost everyone who is tested for Epstein-Barr will show antibodies, because we've all been exposed at one point or another. Some people get sick, others don't.

I do tend to get tired easily, though. But I think that's just lack of stamina from not enough exercise.

Hope you feel better soon!

Re: Does Anyone Have Epstein Barr?

I had mono first in 9th grade...then EBV. I'm an odd duck .

Anyway, I understood that it goes into remission...I've been pretty healthy since then - a cold might last a few days longer with me than someone else. No biggie.

I was told I had it when I was @ 20, and I think I actually had a mild case of mono & didn't know it (I was in college & was tired alot anyways! ) I was also diagnosed with it again I think when I was @24. I actually changed my eating & exercise habits due to a more serious illness which I've also had twice (and the fact that I wanted to lose weight) and haven't felt the tiredness like that in a long time. But then again I never really had it so bad that I couldn't function or anything.
