Does anyone have somewhere to recommend for Japanese Hair Straightening?
After years of being adamantly against it, I'm ready to go for it! However, I don't want to go just anywhere so I was hoping someone has done this and has someone, somewhere to recommend.

Chrissi, I just had the Brazilian Keratin Straightening done and I LOVE IT! I had it done at Cactus in Syosset, ask for Vera. Tell her Kelly's Sister in law Allegra recommended you. It doesn't grow in like Japanese. Good luck!

HAIR VILLAGE, Roosevelt Ave , Flushing. Always busy, specialize in Japanese straightening.
I went to Maximus the first time and paid a ton for an average job , for the past 4 yrs I have gone every 6 months and always a good job, without any incident so far. A bit chaotic but they do good work and have great pricing.

I second this...I've heard many terrible things about the Japanese Straightening. My MOH had it done and it actually made a chunk of her hair fall out! The Brazillian takes the frizz away and makes it reaaaally easy to straighten, and if you don't like it, it wears off in like 3 months so you don't have to wait for it to grow out.

I hate the idea of Japanese straightening but I did Brazilian a while back and I swear after like a week I was frizzy again. I actually talked one of my BM's out of it months ago and then my Brazilian Keratin didn't work so I'm willing to try it. People seem to either love it or hate it.

If you want to travel to NYC, I go to a fabulous place on 23rd btw Park and Lex...Hayato. They are experts there. My hair comes out amazing every time I go..I've been there 5 times already. They are fairly reasonably priced too!! Japanese hair straightening is not necessarily bad for you...my hair is very healthy and never been damaged.

I have done both the Japanese and the Brazilian. I did tne Japanese one in flushing, sorry I can't remember the name of the place. But many salons in flushing do this for the best price I have seen around. I loved it for the first few months, but then i totally hated how my hair looked once my hair grew so I never did it again. The Keratin I loved... at first... now my hair is the same as before only after one month....

if your hair is curly, you may consider a relaxer before the japanese treatment.
i havent done anything yet, but its between a brazilian or relaxer. brazilian cant hurt...but i have been told it probably wont last long for me...so maybe that the same issue w u?

I go to Woodside every 9 months and pay $260. Its more like a factory but me and 4 others in my family go there all the time. Its called the Hair Village and is open everyday.

I've seen someone who had the Japanese straightening done and when it grew in, it looked really bad. Like 2 inches of kink and the rest straight so she still had to use a straightening iron, which imo, defeats the purpose of getting it done. It's also really damaging for your hair. I swear by the CHI straightening iron. My hair isn't curly, curly but gets really frizzy. This iron makes my hair silky and straight in a matter of half an hour and I have very thick, long hair.

It is not damaging for everyone. My hair has been Japanese straightened 6 times now and every time it comes out smooth, silky and not damaged in the slightest. It might not be the best for someone who has super curly hair, because as you said, it will grow in on top really curly. However, I have straighter roots and my hair is more wavy and very frizzy when not Japanesed, so it is perfect for my hair type.

Same here I am up to my 4th time and my hair is silky smooth and the healthiest it has ever been. Like any perm or straightening solution your roots are always going to stay the texture of your hair. My gets wavy and frizzy usually around the 7th-8th month thats why I always go around the 9 month mark. I did notice my hair was drier when I would go blonder but since I am staying brunette it doesnt have that problem. I love the fact that if I go to bed with my hair wet its still pin straight in the morning and all I have to do is run a brush through it and it looks great.

I also go to Hayato (done it 6 times in 4 years) and my hair has never been healthier. Worth every penny.
I only have to touch up roots when it gets close to needing to be done again which is MUCH easier than flat ironing my whole head every day. and the touch up I have to do only takes like 5 mins tops.
