Well - what is good?
We are thinking of buying a cigar case and cigars - i have the case part down - but the cigars - what brands are good - what is preferred? How do you rate them? I am clueless...

Well, there's TONS of dif kinds of cigars out there.. where do you live? there is this fabulous little place in Merrick that sells them and you can get a great deal!

Romeo y julietta both made here and the cubans I know DH and his friends like but I think its the romeo y julietta cubans that they say are good which are hard to get real ones here
they have numbers and different names on them but honestly I dont know the difference

They sell it in a lot of stores

I never heard of them I think the store in merrick, I forgot the name, sells davidoff's and gives a free cutter w/ any purchase of davidoff's I have seen them advertise in newsday

Nat Sherman is by far, the BEST place to go to.. there is no comparison.. by far.. there is one by me on Lexington Avenue....
the one in Merrick is Called the little cigar factor or something.. right on Merrick Avenue, near the train station.. they have such great stuff..

I totally hate cigars also - but our friend loves them - just have to make sure he doesnts hook FH on them - they are so icky smelling!

Mom's Cigars on Sunrise Highway in Valley Stream is a great place to buy cigars... DH mainly smokes cohibas... but if you know what type of cigars your friend smokes (like strong cigars, what length, etc...) that will all be helpful...
Also if you go into a reputable cigar shop and let them know what type of cigar smoker you are buying for, the sales person is usually very helpful.

my dad smoked cigars all while I was growing up
what I learned was: If you want an American brand...get a Connecticut tobacco...sounds strange...but along the CT river are tons of greenhouses where some of the best cigar tobacco is grown...my mom has sold boxes of a New Haven brand at garage sales for a lot of money (have no idea why - they were sitting in the garage and some guy saw them)
they also took Cuban tobacco seeds and planted them in El Salvador, Hondorus, DR...since they have similar growing conditions...but my dad says they never taste like a CUban (he was stationed in Cuba in the Navy - before communism)
