Specifically, keeping yours (land line) when you move from one house to another. I know if its in the same neighborhood you can keep it, but I will be moving from Whitestone to Bayside... will I be able to keep it? I have a weird attachment to my number, I've had it since I was 18! I wonder if I say I use it for business if I can keep - I'll even pay to keep it ... any info would be great.
I heard that you Can do that now... b/c landlines have to be competitive in the way that cell phones are... so there should be portability.
That would be great... I'm afraid to call the phone company in case they tell me 'no!. DH thinks I'm nuts to be so attached to a phone number!
I kept my number when I moved from Flushing to Whitestone earlier this year; it wasn't a problem.
You might as well call and find out...I didn't change mine when I moved within Bayside and the other posters here kept theirs, but you never really know. I'd hate to see you get your hopes up only to be disappointed later.
You used to need to be in the same NYTel (verizon) central office to keep your number. With local number portablility now, it may not matter ...
my cousin just moved from Whitestone to Flushing & he was able to keep his number
