Does anyone know anything about sinus infections?

So I've been pretty sick all week. I am finally getting over the flu, and I went to a different doctor tonight to see why I still feel crappy. She did a bunch of test on me (blood, nose swaps yada yada) and when she mentioned that I had a severe ear infection and an even more severe sinus infection. So she strongly suggested seeing an ENT (ears nose and throat) doctor. I constantly get sinus infections and this one really suxs.

So I kinda think the ent doc may suggest removing my anneoids. But how is this done? Like whats the recoup time, whats the procedure like, will I have scarring will I be puffy etc?

Also if you could recommend a good one that would be great too. My doc gave me some to look into but I feel more comfortable getting opinions from people who have had it done.

Thanks ladies.

I had mine removed about 10 years ago. I left the hospital the same day. I think I missed 3 days of school. There was no scaring. My sinus infections did really clear up after I had it done.

its similar to a tonsil surgery...the adnoids are in that area and the symptoms are similar especially if they are inflammed

I had my rtonsils and adenoids out at the same time. I was out of the hospital that afternoon. It took me about a week to get back on my feet.

For sinus infections I can't recommend NeilMed Sinus Rinse enough. it's amazing and I have had SO many fewer sinus infections since I started using it. My ENT recommended it and it's great.

I'd also recommend sleeping with a vaporizer at night

This...they feel weird but they really help, and regular use can be preventative.

My mother uses this. She has a deviated septum. She likes it. I get the willys from it.

Re: Does anyone know anything about sinus infections?

I had sinus surgery in September. Like you, I got CONSTANT infections, in 2009 from jan till august, I had nine infections, basically one a month. So finally went to an ENT and of course they recommended removing my adnoids. I also have a deviated septum, but my doctor said that once she took at my adnoids, my deviated septum wouldn't be a problem. I also had a cyst and they had to widen my nasal passage. Anyway, the surgery wasn't bad at all! It was about four hours, done in the hospital as an outpatient. I took the pain mediciation for about four days and then went to work! I had no swelling or bruising, which was terrfic. Now the only painful part is the packing. Unfortunately in most cases, they have to pack your nose. To remove it, is kind of painful....so the first time I went to have that removed, I couldn't deal, so the doctor suggested we wait another few days and right before I come in to take a pain pill...so thats what I did and then it didn't hurt at all. Honestly, its not really painful, its more uncomfortable. Fm me with any questions!

eta: since the surgery i haven't had any infections and have noticed a huge difference in my breathing and sleeping!

When I had my adenoids removed, they did not pack my nose. Just FYI.

Also, I still got sinus infections after getting them removed. More helpful than the surgery ahs seriously been the Sinus Rinse. I know it's weird at first but you get used it to and it's amazing.

You should also go to an allergy doctor to get any of those issues resolved.
