Re: Does anyone know anything about these school districts?
Anthony and I are looking to buy a house. I really just want Gabe to go to the best schools.. I was wondering if theres a web site or anything ranking them etc..
Id like him to go to a school where the budget actually passes and he could actually have phys ed, art, music, athletics etc..
Im sure you can tell Im really dissapointed in his school now. How do you send a 5 year old to school all day without specials??
So anyway, were looking to move and I was looking at houses etc and found a few with a lot of land in those districts and wanted to know how they were doing. Also what do you think of the neighborhoods around them? Do they seem safe?
If its bad and you want to FM me that would be great too.
TIA!

Connetquot is a good school district. I think South Manor is a really small school district. Sorry I can't be more help!

every year newsday reports the ELA scores/school report cards. you could try to search them that way.
also, you could try to search the scores on www.nysed.gov
im pretty sure that with the NCLB act all schools have to have their scores posted.

They're all pretty good - esp. the ones on the north shore.

We bought our house in Rocky Point because of the good reputations of the schools in the area. I have heard Miller Place is one of the best in the country, but we found houses in Rocky Point were a little more affordable. We haven't heard anything negative about the Rocky Point district though, just compliments. And I like that the North Shore towns & schools seem more 'small-town', more personable than some of the larger LI towns & districts... Just my opinion.
We really like the area we live in too. I like the North Shore a lot!!!
Good luck!!

Go to MLSLI and compare the school ratings for each, esp. to look at the number of student's who receive free lunches in the district, the ratio of student's to teacher, etc.

Proud Miller Place graduate here. Great school district.
The only thing I have heard recently is that is it a little crowded because there have been a lot of new homes built.
Rocky Point is good too. Oh, Sound Beach is part of the Miller Place school district and I believe it isn't as expensive.

www.greatschools.net is a helpful site.
id say on the list you provided, i would stick with Rocky Point, Miller Place, and Connetquot.
Comsewoge is OK, not the best not the worst.
I dont know much about the others.

I agree. It will tell you statistics on community dynamics, how they rated with the state tests (just remember to look at the state average compared to the % the school got, it can be misleading)
GOOD LUCK !

Look in Sayville. The school district is really wonderful and the town itself is VERY family focused.

Miller Place is a good SD and so is Rocky Point.
We recently moved to rocky point, and so far so good... we found that the houses were a bit more affordable and the taxes a bit lower then Miller Place... we also looked into Comsewogue... not the worst, but not the best... Three Village is also a great SD, which is in that general area, but high taxes... I dont know much about the other SD you have listed... i interviewed at Connetquot and the HS looked very nice... not sure how much info that gives you though!
good luck!
