I went to the pool this evening and the chlorine in the water was extremely strong and me not knowing this went in with my silver, when I came out my necklace, may bracelet, anklet and my toe rings were black I don't know what to do to get them back to their shiny color At least my wedding band and ring looked shinier. Does anyone know how to untarnish silver??? Thanks

Re: DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO GET TARNISH OUT OF SILVER
You can get silver polish cleaner in the supermarket, where cleaners and stuff like that is sold. It usually costs about $4-6 and you just wipe the cleaner onto the silver with a paper towel or cloth. Unfortunately, chlorine can do damage to silver and if the polish cleaner doesn't work, you may have to get the silver re-dipped at a jewelers. This happened to my aunt when she went into her hot tub. Good luck!

Re: DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO GET TARNISH OUT OF SILVER
there is a home remedy that I use all the time, and it works like a charm. I don't have the exact recipe, but this is what I do.
Put a piece of tin foil (about a 6' square) on the bottom of a glass bowl or dish. Put your silver jewelry in the bowl. Pour boiling water over your silver. Sprinkle a few tablespoons of baking soda in. It should get really foamy. Leave the jewelry in for a few minutes. Take it out and wash it with soapy water, and rinse. If the silver is really really tarnished, you might have to do it more than once. You have to do all of the steps for it to work though, especially the tin foil, it's really important. I hope that helps!

Re: DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO GET TARNISH OUT OF SILVER
Thank you all, I think going in to the hot tub after the pool didn't help any either. I am going to try the baking soda and the toothpaste if they all don't work, I am taking them to the jeweler at least the necklace and the bracelet and the anklet. I will give an update on what happened.

be careful with the toothpaste, sometimes it's gritty and will scratch th silver.

I don't think toothpaste works. You can just buy silver polish/cleaner and that will work just fine

my mother sells a lot of silver in her store and she swears that glass cleaner is the best at getting rid of tarnish (i.e. windex)

*runs in to room all excited screaming for somedaybride* It works, your remedy worked, I had to do it twice but the tarnish is all gone. I had to polish it a little with my cleaning cloth as well, but I am a happy, sparkly silvery girl today. *I bow in your presence* Thank you so much, as well as everyone else who responded.
The toothpaste was next then the windex

Yay!!! I'm so happy it worked for you! Isn't it a great home remedy? I do it all the time, silver polish is expensive, and I'm on a budget! Glad I could help
