Found a few homes in that area, but have been hearing that its not good? My uncle lived over there (he passed away, so I can't ask him)....just wondering if I should steer clear!!

My friend Allyson had a house in Hempstead with her sorority (she went to Hofstra) and it was a very very bad area. Not sure if that was just a bad area of Hempstead or if the whole town is bad.
ETS: I missed the word 'West'. My answer is just for Hempstead.

Julz, Hempstead is a not so great area, but West Hempstead is a huge step up! As in may areas, there are nice parts and not so nice parts.
ETS: I went to Hofstra also undergrad and grad and lived in Hofstra's apartments right ON Hempstead Tnpk.....nothing like the sound of gunshots in the middle of the night!

as was mentioned be4, hempstead is not so good but west hempstead is great - just make sure it is really west hempstead in the zoning and everything b/c some people pass it off as west hempstead but it may be just hempstead - as long as you check the school district and all, it should be fine!

i lived in west hempstaed my whole life. Just like several towns, it has its good and bad areas. I grew up in the part close to malverne and lynbrook, theres also parts that border franklin square and garden city park. the other side near the church borders hempstead but the houses are beautiful. My stepmom still lives there with my two sisters and they go to the west hempstaed school. its decent and they both like it. i went back to get married at st thomas my church....

a friend of mine lived in west hempstead on catherdral avenue and it was beautiful over there but if you went a little bit further it wasnt so great
