Does anyone know info on Paxil?

My husband has been on Paxil for the past 5 years. From what i hear, this pill is used to cure a disorder. Not to be used for the rest of his life. He was put on it, because he kept having anxiety/panic attacks. It is totally ruining our sex life...No fun . It just makes me angry to think, he has to depend on this. He is the only one in his family to ever get put on an anti depressant.

He had emotional problems in High School, but don't we all!!! Go through, this. So, they decided to give him this pill. I don't know what to do, I want him off this pill.

He also says he has Reactive Hypo Glycemia.

Sometimes these emotional problems are not thorougly emotional. There are many people who have a chemical imbalance which can cause these problems. If the medication has really been helpful to him; he really should not stop b/c the panic attacks may come back and that will put a bigger damper on your sex life! He should really discuss this with his doctor and maybe he can start on another medication; there are several out there and sometimes you have to try a few to get the one that's right for you.
Listen, I have severe PMDD (aka- PMS to the infinite power!!!) I spoke with my gyn and primary doctor and they both agreed I should try an SSRI. Let me tell you, I feel soooooooooooooo much better, the PMS symptoms 99.9% gone. Well, I ran out of med's and didnt take a week before my period (prime PMS time). I noticed the difference and even though I realized what it was, physically I could not control the symptoms.
Good Luck!

ETA Paxil is given for generalized social anxiety/panic disorder and depression.

Panic attacks are NOT fun. They are SCARY. And you cannot just go off Paxil or you get SERIOUS side effects. If he feels he is ready to be weaned off, he should do it slowly. Ask him to speak to his doctor to decrease his dosage little by little. Is he seeing a psychologist? If so, does s/he feel he is ready to decrease his dosage? I'm sure he can live without it, but just make sure he's careful about it. I was on Paxil and hated it. Getting off of it was the best thing I could have done for myself, but I am a ball of stress.

Thanks for responding..

He does not see a pscy. I wish he would, I just can’t understand, how at an early age they would give him anti-depressant. His brothers feel, that he does not need it, but now he is so dependent on it. It is scary.

I personally feel he does not need it, but who am I to judge. He tried to stop taking the pill. I told him please do not do cold turkey, he went from 40mg to 0. I said, that was not a good idea. He felt electricity rush through his body, and felt like he wanted to snapp. So, he return back on the pill.

I know he could get ween off, if he just does it slowly. I want to tell him, tonight, he really does not need it, Not for the rest of his life!!!!!! That it is all in his head-Mental.

Unfortunatelyu nothing CURES a mental ailment. He shoudl DEFINITELY see a therapist, whether it be pschotherapist (whcih is probably most beneficial since you say he had past childhood, adolescent issues), psychotherpists look to the past to see what is causing you distress and instability NOW.
There are many different medication options, maybe Paxil is not the rigth med for him, and this is why he should be under the care of a psychiatrist. He could slowly be weaned off and put on alow does of another med and slowly increased, then there will be no break through symptoms. Good luck, it;s tough road, but therapy could really get to the bottom of the cause of his symptoms
