depends on the program - FH didn't need it for Special Ed @ Queens College.

Well I went to both CW Post and Queens and I was able to opt out of it due to my grades.

What do you want to study? Stony Brook doesn't require it for the MALS and MAT programs (also some of the MPS programs).

I believe in Queens it may be that you don't have to take the GRE in each department depending on your grades but I would check on it.

Are you nervous about the GRE's? I was before grad school..and I studied my AS$ off, learned over 300 words for the analgy part, bought books to study, GRE CD roms..etc.. the best advice I can give you is brush up on your math skills, but the analagy part of it, either you know it or ya dont..If I had to redo it, I wouldnt have studied at all. Most schools require the GRE, but they alos recognize that its a standardized test and isnt necessarily a demonstration of your true abilities. Your GPA and your interview, letters of recommendation will speak volumes over your GRE scores. My scores ended up to be ok, I scored high on writingand math and my analogy score was ok..but Ive matined a 4.0 in grad school. My point is dont fear those stupid GRE scores, most grad schools look beyond those scores

My doctoral program does require the GRE, but they actually admitted me before I even took it, and said I must complete it before I start the program. Some programs legally I think have to require a standardized test, but they don't weigh the score too heavily. I wouldn't worry about it. They actually agreed to let me take the Miller Analogy Test instead, which is only an hour long.

I just finished a master's at City College, and I didn't need to take the GRE. But that was for an education program, and I believe that most Master's programs in Ed don't require it.
