I know orchids, calla lilies and hydrangeas are pricey
-- but what about peonies and dahlias?
Are they pricey flowers for July? I know peonies season will be just about ending and it will be the heart of dahlia time.
I am meeting with the florist on Saturday and want to have some more info so I can know if he's pricing me fairly! Thanks

Re: does anyone know which flowers are expensive?
well, don't think solely in terms of cost per stem...
hydrangeas are expensive, but they're also huge, taking the place of probably 4-6 roses... so their cost can be more accurately compared to several roses instead of one... Taking that into account, hydrangeas aren't that costly!
peonies ARE. And they'll be even more $$ in july, since it's the real tail-end of the season.... but I do LOVE THEM!!!
I bet daisies (including gerber daisies) would be really affordable in july (one of my favorite flowers!) Roses are always reasonably priced... In lieu of peonies, I bet you could get garden roses for a very reasonable price in july, and they have a very open full look, similar to a peony....

Re: does anyone know which flowers are expensive?
I was told that no flowers are ever really 'out of season' because all flowers are flown in from somewhere and no matter what- somewhere in the world it's warm and the type of flower you want can hop on a plane from there.
Then, I was told that when a Florist tells you 'oh that's going to be $$ b/c it's not in Season at that time' they are just trying to rip you off.
I don't know if this is true or not but I was told this by a Florist.
That being said, I have orchids, roses and hydrangeas as my flowers and I got a very reasonable price and was not charged more because they were in or out of season. If they are out in New Zealand then they will be in someplace else in the world (according to the florist).
As far as some flowers being more expensive than others- I'm not sure about that... all of mine were the same price, sorry.
