Does anyone know which types of flowers are more expensive than others?

I got 2 quotes from florists so far, all of my flowers I chose for my centerpieces, my bo-k and my bridesmaids bo-k's were roses (only roses). Now if I were to mix up some different flowers in there instead of all roses do you think the price would be less expensive or more expensive???

I've heard that roses are a very reasonably priced flower.... moreso than one might think!

I agree, my florist quotes were alot more reasonable than I thought they would be. I'm just not sure if it might be rose overkill with everything ALL roses. What other flowers could I put in the mix that wouldn't make my price go up drastically. I love cala lily's but I think they might be very expensive to add

roses are relatively inexpensive..... so are hydrangea, considering how huge they are....

Orchids are $$$, and peonies (which are available only in may-june) are also $$$.

a lot of the unusual flowers you see in bouquets on knot.com and in magazines are rather pricey. Ranunculus (which look like mini peonies/roses) are $$$. Many of those flowers are also delicate and may die during the day....

I was notified by burtons that he couldn't provide lady's mantle (a bouquet filler that is bright celery green, and presumably more $$ than other fillers)...

ah, but the combo of peonies and lady's mantle can't be beat!!!!

That's some good information. I definitely don't want any flowers dying before the day is done. I guess I'll have to go to whichever florist I choose and ask them what exactly the price differences are and maybe they can do something for me.

my florist yanked the ranunculus and another flower from my centerpiece scheme, since they will not last all day. I was sad, but grateful for the info....

FYI, if you book burtons in melville, he has a flat fee for flowers... you can have whichever you want... including peonies if you're a may/june bride. (I was STUNNED he was willing to be so generous with the peonies...) However, he in general does NOT have more unusual flowers, however, since he buys in bulk....

Do you mind me asking if your quote from Burtons was 'reasonable'?

roses are among the cheapest flower you can get now a days. This is because they were in such high demand over the years that they began growing them everywhere. Now they have an overabundance of them adn are constantly breeding new types of roses.

Calalilys, peonies, orchids -- all expensive. Hydrangea is not as expensive as some of the others, but still not 'cheap'

I would recommend Burtons also since they charge you the same price for any flower. They're very reasonably priced and they do great work. Try giving them a call.

i am using burtons also.....i highly recommend getting a quote from them. they just charge per boks, not types of flowers....so if you have flowers in mind theyll charge you the same as carnations (lol, thats what they told me!!)

it really depends, and it depends on the time of year, too. Lily of the valley is small and expensive even when it's in season. The rest of the year it's either impossible to get or ridiculously expensive. It's my sister's favorite flower, and she wanted it for her wedding in September (years ago) and her florist just laughed. Not a very nice florist, come to think of it, but this was in CT.

Like everyone said, roses are actually pretty cheap, except near Valentine's Day. If you're getting married in May, you could get spring flowers for pretty cheap, I'd guess. Freshroses.com has a listing of what's availalbe by month--although, to them, it's 'easily' available. A very expensive Manhattan florist can probably get you anything, anytime.

Roses are you cheapest... I would check with burton's.. I wanted Calla's and asian lilies... and the guy told me they are able to do it b/c they charge the same price for daisies as they do for callas--- hence the reason they are far less expensive than other shops.. I paid under $1K for my flowers from burton's-- when I was quote $3500 from a few other places...

Roses are definitely reasonable now.

My CPs and bouquets were all black magic roses without greenery. My BMs carried vendella roses with calla lillies mixed in. I used Burtons as well!

ETA: I cropped some pics of the others andthey won't post, I'll work on it!

I think that Orchids are one of the most expensive. They last the longest and hold up very well in warmer weather.
