When we get married we would like to get out of our apartment (and as much as we would like a house its just not gonna happen) so we were thinking of getting like a 2 bedroom condo or co-op so that when we have a kid theyd be ok there till we can eventually get a house
Does anyone know any info on either of these in Nassau county like how much they are? and where? Im DYING for my own washer/dryer LOL

FH and I are moving into a condo as well when we get married, but not in Nassau county, so I wouldn't be of help with pricing and such.. But we actually found alot of good places by just visiting century 21 online or even going in for a consultation, but goodluck!!

Condo's in Nassau County were just around 400k plus maintence, they were no bargain
Co-ops are a less money but technically you dont own ur apartment, u own shares in the building company. something like that, plus there is maintence as well
I noticed some more affordable condos in suffolk, like babylon area. but the taxes were still 4000-5000 a year, wich is not cheap. plus hte maintence of 300-400 a month

Exactly. We decided to rent and save up for now. Condos/co-ops are insanely overpriced!

OMG!! i thought they were 200,000 at most!!! those prices are not much better then the houses..which are insanely overpriced!! u think its better of to just find a 2 bedroom apartment? long island is wayyyy to expensive!!

My issue w/ condos and co-ops was that you take a mortage on a place and then have maintenance on top...plus taxes! My friend bought hers a few years ago for well over $200,000 and has $6000 taxes each year plus $800 maintenance each month. It's insane.
My FH and I pay $1275/month for a 1 bedroom. We are paying that and saving a ton so we can just get a house when the time comes. If you are planning to stay in a condo/co-op for a long time I see room for some profit but if just for a few, I think you'll lose money.

we live in a 1 bedroom coop in queens and we paid under $200k but it was almost 3 years ago, the value has gone up a little bit.

With the market today, if you want to buy a condo/co-op you are better off buying a house! The prices are comprable in many nice LI areas, and you'll have a house!

I live in a Co-op and its annoying already..cant wait to get rid of it. The upside is I can rent it out for a crazy price!

Yea...but theres a restriction on it..I have to wait a couple years before selling it! UGH..there are many hidden restrictions!,,,,

go to www.mlsli.com and you can see everything. The only thing with the co-op is the 10% down that they require....try and get a condo instead. Unfortunately Co-ops are what are mostly out there right now.

i own a co-op with my fiancee, its in long beach. we closed in october. it was 225k, but its a one bedroom. you can find one bedrooms all over nassau for under 300k. two bedrooms are more expensive. try looking on MLSLI.COM. its the best website for looking at real estate.
