Does anyone NOT decorate during the holiday season?
after being *harrassed* today by shelzyp...I thought I would post this question...
While my family did some amount of decorating when I was younger...I do not do anything...
I've never had a stocking...I don't plan on putting up a tree until I have children...especially since we are spending xmas in Mexico...why decorate a home I won't be in?
DH didn't have a tree growing up...they really didn't exchange gifts either...if they wanted something big in August that would be their *Christmas* gift
Michelle was *horrified* when she heard this (actually called me the anti-Santa )

Christmas was always huge at my house (w/ 6 kids it had to be) Even when I lived alone I had a tree & decorations. I think it makes the apartment so festive I love it!!! We won't be here for Christmas either but I'm still decorating. Just not putting up a real tree. I will get out a small fake one I bought a few years ago.

Growing up...my Mom would go all out on decorating the house!! Every knuck and crany was filled!! I vowed that I would decorate my house but maybe not that much!
When I had my apt, I deocorated a tree and put up things around the house, I always tried to make it look festive without cluttered. The Christmas after 9/11, I didnt decorate. I didnt feel in the mood to celebrate when a horrible tragety had just happened.
This year, I am feeling EXTRA festive (thanks to the card swap) I think we are really going to go all out!!
I do not think of you and 'anit-Santa'...LOL because you do not decorate. I wouldnt decorate either if my husband and I werent into the holidays and werent even going to be home for it!!

I think it's kind of funny that now that we are all grown up, my mother, sister and I decorate our homes even more now. We can't wait to decorate this year since we bought a big tree.
But we wouldn't go all out if we weren't going to be home either. My aunt and uncle just started putting up a tree about 3 years ago because they spent the holidays with my aunts family in Canada.
I don't think you are anti-santa.

I was planning on making something for some friends for x-mas, but when I asked Erica if she would burn it if I sent to her, she said she would throw it out.
Sounds like the 'anti-Santa' to me!!!
I also told her that artifical tree = artifical x-mas!!!

You are an athethist, correct? So it makes perfect sense why you would not go bit on decorating and celebrating Christmas. Dont let anyone harass you!
But i Loooove christmas and do as much as i can to make my house look jolly. BUt if were going away for Christmas, i would not get a tree.

If you are not 'big' into the season due to religious or rather lack of religion than I can understand your point of view.
That being said I cannot imagine not having a tree or stockings or decorating my house. Heck, 1/2 my attic is my Christmas decoration boxes. But there are plenty of people who, like you, do not want to decorate their home when they spend the holidays elsewhere. Maybe put up a nice Winter wreath on your door instead.

I don't think you're the anti-Santa, I think it's everyone's personal choice. I personally love to decorate the tree, try to bake things, etc.
You live in California right? I think the fact that it's always sunny doesn't put you in the 'holiday spirit' either. I remember watching Beverly Hills 90210 and I used to think all those decorations looked out of place because it was so warm.

I am an atheist too, and I don't celebrate xmas for any religious reason, just as a family holdiay, weher we can get together and give gifts.
All of my decorations are of snowmen and santa, nothing religious. And she didn't decorate while in NY either, so it is not a CA thing. She is just the Grinch, except she likes to get gifts!!!!

I do like to get gifts and I like christmas cookies too!!
I did have my moms old silver tree when I lived in NY but I do think that the weather is playing a role in my bah-humbugness...
even though my family is not religious...we celebrated the German (pagan) parts of the holiday...the tree...the lights...Saint Nicholas's Night...cooking...but I'm just not into it...

Holidays are a happy time but no one should have to decorate if they dont want too
since DH And I are both Jewish but he is not very religious and I am christian and he is not I do little things like a menorah in the window, a non-religious wreath w/ gift boxes, bows etc on it in the hallway and I hang candy canes and some tree ornaments around the living room and kitchen but I do not have a tree

Being a Christmas Eve baby, I've always loved the *season* of Christmas - the smells, the colors, the white twinkle lights. I definetly still decorate for the season...
I don't celebrate the holiday for religious reasons (to be honest, and NO OFFENSE, but I don't see many people nowadays who do celebrate it as a religious holiday - it's become so Hallmark). As a child...we used to sit in front of the tree on Christmas morning and unveil baby Jesus in the manger...and all eat a piece of cake to celebrate his birth. It's a sweet, albeit dorky, memory for me.

Our first Christmas together in 2001, We went out and chopped down our own Christmas tree. We decorated the house with lights and mini trees lined the driveway. Last year, I was in NY so I didn't even see him and FI didn't put up lights or a tree. Nothing at all. This year is our first Christmas living together (and the very first New Years we will spend together in 3 years!!) so I plan on decorating. We are getting a tree and I can't wait!!

I was born 12/28..but I guess the bug didn't cach me...
I don't think of decorating or celebrating Christmas as religious at all (most historian - religious scholars as well - note that the RC Church made the holiday to get the pagans to converted...so used many of their traditions)
I just don't want to decorate...spend all that money...put everything up...then have to take it all down...
our halloween decorations, from a party stayed up for 6 months last year (mainly b/c I could scare my dog wih them...lol )

I do alot more for christmas and a few things for halloween/thanksgiving. I do not decorate for other holidays.
