DH and I looked into the Disney Vacation Club while we were in Florida. But we wonder how this may compare to other time shares. If any of you own a time share and could tell me about it I would appreciate it. THANKS LADIES!

I do, in Aruba, La Cabana. What do you need to know? You can FM if you want.

Re: Does anyone own a timeshare?
Before you buy a timeshare...do the math.
Take the price of the timeshare per week and multiple by the # of weeks in the year. Using that number, determine if that space is worth the cost.
The timeshare sales people make a very good living by twisting the numbers and facts to make it seem like a good deal and to get people to buy. But often times, the numbers just dont work.
When we went to Orlando, we heard the whole thing and it sounded pretty good. That was until I took the salesperson calculator and figured out that they were selling this little condo like space for $2M each!!! For $2M, do you know what sort of mansion you can buy in Orlando? It was a total scam.
But ive heard you can buy a timeshare for much less on the resale market.

Re: Does anyone own a timeshare?
We have one with Disney & find it very convenient!
And I really believe in the long run we will save money. Over the length of the time share it will average about $800-1000 per year that will give us about 10 hotel night stays in great hotels.
FM me any specific questions!
And Stef is right - check for resales. For Disney they can be $10 per 'point' cheaper then buying from Disney.

Re: Does anyone own a timeshare?
Christy, my family and I looked very closely into buying a Disney timeshare and decided against it because there is a time limit for how long you can own it. You pay thousands, and after 40 years you have to give it back. With other timeshares you pay for it and keep it for life. It even gets willed out after you pass away.
My parents have a Marriot timeshare and LOVE it. In fact, Patrick and I are using it in just a few weeks.
Even better than that, my parents are giving my sister and her husband 2 weeks use of it for their honeymoon, and they are going to Hawaii.

I have considered a Time Share to Aruba, but the last two years we have went, we were too young!
How is La Cabana? We usually stay at the Allegro.

We have the Disney time share. I like it because of the point system and flexibility of where you want to go (just about anywhere) and when.

We do and we are selling it. Someone offered us more than what we paid for it
We can buy another whenever. Its nice if you plan to use it every year, and I like mine cause I can use it anywhere almost!
ets: nancy I own at the Allegro now. It's really nice!

Is that the timeshare you sold, the one at the Allegro?
We have went two years and planned on going back this year for two weeks, but now with the baby coming we won't be able too. Maybe next year! We absolutely love it there!

Re: Does anyone own a timeshare?
Nancy: Loved La Cabana (obviously since we bought there), not out of this world expensive, nice property, walking distance to the beach.
Stef is right though, you need to watch the numbers of when they sell to you, they are good at making this look like a GREAT deal when it sometimes isn't.
It forces you on vacation every year and we own it forever, we can will it on to someone, rent it out, use it, give it to someone etc. Although we didn't get to use it last year, we can bank the week and use it somewhere else. I'd suggest buying somewhere close to home, my friend does that and exchanges hers out to wherever she wants to go. Aruba is expensive to fly to!

Re: Does anyone own a timeshare?
When we went to Cancun, we went on the tour for a free trip (we were poor, so we figured, why not?) anyway- We discovered that if you say NO enough, the price keeps dropping and dropping. What they first offered us for $25K over a lifetime w/ the first sales guy........ soon turned into $5K for the same exact thing, 3 sales guys later. So, if you intend to buy, say no a few times and see what happens I totally regret not buying it,but we really didn't have the $$ at the time. $5K for the lifetime to use anywhere in the world soooooooo would've paid for itself in the end.
