i'm considering buying a bicycle and riding to / from work ....
i just don't know if it's a good idea since i would need to ride on hempstead turnpike all the way from Farmingdale to Uniondale (total of about 8 miles)
Does anyone know how long that would actually take? And if Hempstead Turnpike is safe for bikes?

i dont recommend doing it without riding around a lot before hand... i rode from Middle Village to Rockaway with my dad once and it was really really really really difficult and that was almost no hills or anyting... it is about 10 miles...

DAYUUMM!!! that is a lonnnnngggggg bike ride...it takes about 30-40 minutes driving imagine biking riding.

nah - it takes me about half hour to drive it ... i figure it would take about 45 on a bike (though i honestly have no idea ... it's a complete guestimate lol)

I dunno, I think it'd take at least an hour, maybe an hour and 15 minutes?
ETA: Think how fast your car is driving- 30 MPH? You think you can go 20 MPH on a bike? Cuz I can't!

I can hardly go 10 MPH! At least for a sustained period of time! It's hard!
