I used to sew...when I lived at home. My mom has an antique sewing machine...it was hers as a young adult...Now that mom lives with me and the machine is in my house, I think I would like to take it up again!!
MY mom used to always make clothes for us as kids!! They never looked handmade either!!

I used to sew...I made the curtains that hang in our living room but they're all lopsided - I HATE them! lol. I have my grandmother's sewing machine though, so I take it out every other year or so and try to remember what she taught me.

i regret not having my mom teach me to sew. She sewed all her life, always made us clothes (made my prom dress) and now i wish i could sew so i can make my own clothes and curtains and costumes and on and on... I guess i can always take a class at Joanns (mom is too far away to teach me)

I would love to learn how to sew things other then a button or a hem.
My mother used her sewing machine that was built into a cabinet as a tv stand in her bedroom so there was no mother daughter bonding with a needle and thread
my mom did teach me...but I don't really sew anything...but my mom sewed everything for us as kids...clthes...barbie clothes...cabbage patch kid clothes...every curtain in my moms house is made by her...and she quilts...
If anyone is interested she teaches quilting classes at the Huntington adult ed program...

My mom sewed and I really wish she had taught me more too - she used to make clothes when we were little, all our Halloween costumes, she even reupolstered a couch (I really could have used that info) I sew some- I made curtains (not great but they serve their purpose), and I recently made a quilt for my little neice. It had some -well, problems- but mostly came out pretty cute. I keep thinking of taking a quilting class, but I'm way out East on the Island so it's hard to find stuff.

Al bought a sewing machine a few years ago, so I've been trying out things here and there. Mostly it gets used for his halloween costumes and random projects.
But I have made a few shawls, and a velvet duvet cover (that was my one major undertaking).

I wish!! My Nana was VERY talented. She used to be a dress maker. I can semi-sew. I do have that hand held sewing machine that my sister made me register for!! LOL!!!
Pam...is Sayville too far? My mom will go to Patchworks there on main street...and I'm sure she knows of a ton of other places out east...(let me tell you people know her all over the island by name in these stores)
tracy...how does the handheld work? my mother talked me out of it...saying it wasn't that great...but she did get me a sew genie...i haven't taken it out of the box yet...
maybe when my mom gets a new one, I'll grab hers...I think she paid $4K for it!!!

I sew. My mom was a professional seamstress and made my sisters prom gowns. She has really bad arthritis now and can only do small projoects.
I have lots of sewing tools, a folding cutting table, sewing machine, etc. But I prefer to do hand work: quilting and crocheting.
I machine made curtains for the bathroom and have the fabric ready to make some for the spare bedroom.
marcia...my mom made my sisters prom dress too...but b/c of materials it turned out to be quite expensive...so when I found a dress I loved on sale for my prom...my mom said it was well worth it...
