Does anyone sew? Crochet? Knit?

Or do any other old school crafting? how did you start? what have you made that you are most proud of? Who taught you?
I love to crochet and although I have made purses and small stuff with the sewing machine, i always wanted to do clothing but never could. but i love being crafty like that.

I knit everyone in my family scarves for xmas. It took forever (I think I started in August to finish them all by xmas!). It was fun though--some people at work were doing it and taught me. I heard crocheting goes faster, so maybe I will try that. I would love to make a blanket.

I crochet. My mom started teaching me when i was younger, but i grew impatient. Only learned the chain.
A few years ago i picked it up again and taught myself. I love it. Im most proud of my first afghan, made with a border. And the hat i made.

I tried knitting and i got the stitch down, then i gave up. One day ill pick it up again. I just have to finish the afghan ive been working on for the past year (not that it takes me that long, but with the wedding planning and favor painting, i've had no time to crochet)

My mom sews, and i regret not letting her teach me when i lived with her. SOmeday id like to learn to sew. Id love to make my own clothes!

I'm trying to learn to knit & crochet.
FH bought me 2 kits for Christmas, but I haven't had time to practice. No one in family does, but his family does.

His aunt said she'd show me, sin e I can't learn from a book, but I'm determined to learn from a book to prove them wrong--I'm kind of a brat like that.

don't listen to her! I learned both from a book!

Really? yay! Thats' good to know.
FH believes he can learn anything from a book ( oragami, German, guitar), so I think he his trying to learn to knit too, to show it can be done.
Too cute!

I want to learn how to make scarves! Is that knitting or crocheting?

you can knit OR crochet scarves. (or anything for that matter).

You can make scarves doing either! My friend made me a crochet one that is beautiful. I knit them for everyone in my family, and they were nice, but I thought the crochet look would have looked more delicate. I would love to try crochet next.

i crocheted a long skinny scarf over new years. i even added fringe!!! that was huge for me to do b/c the fringe made it totally more authentic. i've made afghans but have not finished one for my cousin that i started about 11 years ago. i didn't like the stitch of it. i would love to sew clothing. i've made friends purses and bags and one christmas, i made fh a stocking and ladies those lavender eye pillows. i want to make more stuff.and as for learning from books, i learned initially from my friends mom, but have advanced thanks to books and the internet.

Do you sew on a machien or buy hand? Ilearned to sew a little in school, but I was bad with the machine.

I was thinking of getting that little one they advertise on tv, sicen I don't knwo if I'll make anything untill I actually have a machine, so I don't want to spend too much.

I knit and crochet. Mostly knit lately. I guess I'm most proud of my first blanket, but I think the sweater I'm making now is going to overtake it. (It is coming out so good so far!)

Crochet is a LOT faster than knitting - I can make an entire afghan in crochet in a week or two. It takes me MONTHS to do the same for knitting. (i'm a pretty fast crocheter)

FYI- for those of you that liekto knit & croceht & have run out of peopel to make things for, there are charites that take them, like project Linus.

Also, I'm sure any charity that accepts clothing could uses blanket & hats & scarves.

So should I try & learn corchet first? I started with knitting, but need to put more time into it to get it right.
