Does anyone think that they will NEVER own a house!!!

I'm just depressed and need to vent. I'm seriously starting to think I am NEVER EVER going to be able to afford a house.

I'm 31 and my husband is 41. The problem is that I chose to go back to school for a second career (which I do not regret) but it is really hurting us financially. It is a 4 year program and my school is very expensive. I've paid out of pocket but mostly taken loans. Plus we were in debt before I went to school, now major debt since we have had to rely on credit cards for a lot of expenses.

I should be working in my field by next summer but I know it is going to take us a while to become stable.

I just feel like we will never be in a position where we can afford to buy.

Would you be totally be miserable if you always had to live in an apartment???

I WANT to live in an apartment- which is why we are buying one (sadly it is costing more than most houses LOL) but I LOVE city life and don't think I can ever go suburban again.

Home ownership doesn't necessarily equal happiness! Do what's best for you in your life at the time. School is very important- take care of that first. Houses will always be there waiting for you. Best of luck to you!

It took DH and I 2.5 years to find our house!!!! We started looking when the housing market just started to go up and prices went up faster than we could save. So he saved for the house while i paid for the wedding.

Our house was a bit more than what we wanted to spend but we're doing it and I'm glad we did. It was worth the wait.

Don't get fustrated - everything will come together!!!

I don't think we will either. Besides the crazy prices, we can't agree on the style house we like, what it should/shouldn't have, or location. Then, if we ever do find one we agree on, I worry we'll be outbid.

Sometimes I feel that way...we've been looking for about 10 months - but only aggressively for the past 4 months. The bright side of it 'taking so long' is that we're banking more money...

Honestly, I love our apartment and where we live and don't mind 'having to' live here longer. We're in no rush to leave (other than wanting to own) so it's making it easier for us to be picky.

I was about to post this exact same thing, and then I saw your thread!

I truly feel like we'll never have a house on LI. We're young - I'm almost 26 and DH is 27. However, I'm still a full time student and won't be earning a real salary for a couple of years. We can't save any money right now, so i feel like we'll never have what we need for a downpayment. It's going to be at least 3-4 years of apartment living before we can start looking.
